A Glasgow newspaper reported in 1842 an accident in which an anonymous "gentleman from Dumfries-shire... bestride a velocipede... of ingenious design" knocked over a pedestrian in the Gorbals and was fined five British shillings. Johnston identified Macmillan as that gentleman.

I've heard that this was the first bicycle-pedestrian collision.

Not quite what you were asking for, but I've never had an opportunity to post it before.

In terms of the number of cyclists killed each year in Ireland, 2010 had an exceptionally low figure - 2 or 3 IIRC. The garda website indicates 9 so far this year, which is more typical - again from recollection it's been around 1 per month on average over recent years

I'm not sure where you would get details of injuries from, or how accurate they would be, as many cyclist injuries go unrecorded

This report from the HSE may be useful on the unrecorded cyclist injuries: http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/Publications/HealthProtection/Public_Health_/RTC-related_Hospital_Admissions_2005-2009,_A_Report.pdf
