...and that's before import charges, taxes and duties.

(never mind the trouble of registering a new 14 year old car with non-EU specs)

    no thanks

When I first looked at the link I thought it said Chrysler were going to pay someone €1k to take one. :pac:

They'll sell in poor countries with little registration requirements, probably us$1500 landed they will find buyers and the seller may make a tidy profit.
Though after 14 years I'd imagine they'll need huge overhauls; new batteries and well and any other perishables.

By European standards it was anyway :-)

I drove a new Chrysyler Sebring in the States recently. Worst car Ive ever driven. The car refused to do anything including kick down and accelerate on depressing the pedal fully on a mountain ascent at 65 mph(with a 2.7 v6 afaik) Apart from that the windows lacked any heat reflecting tint and caused instant sunburn while magnifying the sun. I found that heat reflecting glass was standard on the equivelent Ford Mustang and persumably all Fords, just like it is in Europe on even base VW polos and persumably all other cars.
It had no deadlocks, the boot couldnt be double locked so it couldnt be opened from the inside and the windows rolled themselves down and the car unlocked itself(and no I didnt sit on the remote) overnight. Absolute junk and if I had the misfortune of owning it it would have to be sold at any price and I normally drive cars into the ground!

I actually think that Neon design looks decent and has aged very well.

I have never been in one, but I can't help but think that the revulsion could be partly down to the fact that people are conservative. Also, I'd say the fact that this is a 2 litre petrol with 131HP can't have helped it; insurance and tax would have cost a fortune. Let's face it, anyone with that kind of money for those running costs is likely to turn their nose up at a car like this.

Lots of perfectly decent cars flop either because they are unsuitable to the target market. You need only look at a Kia Magentis for proof of that. It had just about everything a Passat had, was almost half the price (especially with a year or two of depreciation!), great performance, a solid diesel engine; yet it was a complete disaster.

I've been in them and driven, here and in the US, but not for years. They're alright but that's about all. I thought they looked terrible when they first came out, but compared to some of the latest cars they look perfectly fine to me now. They were an odd car compared to what was on offer here at the time and their range of spec/engines wasn't suitable.

As for the Kia, it lacked a key selling point the passat had, a "trusted" brand and (in the minds of the general public) the perception of reliabiluty and quality. Only now is kia beginning to pull away from the image of cheap dodgy, low budget cars they acquired when they first appeared on the scene.

Auto box was 3 speed. Suicidal on petrol but it did'nt matter at 80 cents a gallon. Driven them in the US.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭mullingar

    VRT is....... €6,681!

Yes, the stat code is 40285463 based on 1000 miles :pac::pac::pac::pac:

(Has to be an error somewhere!)

Well it is 2011 and high emissions. Dunno if It's euro4 or whatever would be required as a new car . I doubt it is

    I found the error,

The VRT crowd have "N/A" under the depreciation table section on the report so its possible that nobody imported such a POS before.
