    Hi guys,

I am the editor of a news website aimed at children ages 10-12 and i need some help coming up with suitable topics. We are just starting up and the idea is to get kid's interested in reading and writing their own comments on news stories. The only problem is we are struggling with our content, entertainment and sport stories are fine and we have loads of those but we have to be careful with our news stories because they are such a young group so i was looking for any ideas or suggestions for the site? We had also thought about doing a "did you know" section so if anyone has any ideas for that section they are greatly appreciated!

Science (space, medicine, environment etc.) would be a great area also and easy to get children interested. The ozone layer is back on the agenda at the moment, for example.
    Puzzles/games etc.
You should have to pre-approve the comments before they get posted on the site also just in case they are inappropriate.
"Did you know?" section could have tid-bits of trivia on things that kids would have interaction with on a daily basis e.g. how a television works, what causes rain to fall, how books get made and printed, bicycles; That sort of stuff.
A catchy, easy-to-spell name is vital as well as ensuring that the site doesn't get associated with areas parents would not wish their kids to be exposed to; swearing in the comments section, drugs and alcohol glorification, porn etc.

I imagine you've seen it already but the RTE kids' news show News2day has something of a website, might give you some ideas anyways. http://www.rte.ie/trte/news2day/
