    Seems so, best make sure and run the scans specified in the second link.

    I did a virus scan and deleted everything that was infected,so then I restarted the laptop and a startup repair box appeared and when that finished scanning it rebooted again and it keeps doing this,any ideas?

    This is a remnant of a virus and is most likely hiding in the registry at this location:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

    There are two values in there, "load" and "run" which are used to load executables, it's analoguous to the load and run sections in the WIN.INI file in Windows 3.x and 9x systems.

    Paste the following code into a .reg file and import it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
    "load"=""

    Log off or reboot and you should be fine.

    The laptop itself wont even booth into windows now though.

    I got that on Vista machine, Startup repair kept looping and I just backed up all data using a Ubuntu Live Disc and formatted it. Sounds like theres some serious corruption there so its probably the best option, what anti malware tool rendered the system unbootable? You didn't run something like Combofix?

    I've no clue man, I was given a Vista machine to speed up, uninstalled the Vaio junk, shut it down, went to work on it the next morning and startup repair kept looping, just backed up and wiped it, A repair install may work, I didn't try this though
