Biting insect

Woke up to find myself bloody back-bitten by a basterdy biter!

Or rather, I received five large localised bites on my lower back the other night, all in a space about the size of your hand.

Saw this little fellow dead on the window-sill the next day. Could he be (one of the) culprits, and what is he?

This was in north Co Dublin, near a river/marsh, two days ago. The ruled lines are 7mm apart.

Try google images for Culiseta Annulata and compare with your specimen (If you were bitten it was by a She, by the way).

The Malahide area is quite well known for mosquito populations.

Mosquitos are coming in to houses now looking for a place to hibernate

It looks very similar to the images on Google, but I always thought mosquitos were smaller!

First time in three years at this location that I've seen/experienced them. Must be something to do with the wetness of the summer and the recent hot spell?

Anyway, worst set of insect bites I ever had; going to get some repellent plug ins, I think.
