Was reading an old copy of 'Alive!' that was dropped in my letterbox (for those of you wondering, imagine a newspaper written by the Pope and DeVelera mixed together) and there was an article about how kids in 1970s were better off in a sort of 'Four Yorkshiremen' style rant.

It was going on about how it wouldn't kill kids to be a little less spoilt or had an auld slap if they were out of line.

I was ashamed to agree with a lot of it because Alive! is a fúcking joke of a paper!

So, have you ever found yourself agreeing with something written on a sandwich board, or from that nut-job on Henry street that holds that little Fetus replica, or Jim Corr?

Yes, you don't have to agree with the author to agree with his argument.

I like a lot of religious arguments or reasons as to why there must be a God, but I don't always agree with the speaker or his ultimate conclusion.

    Stewart Lee, the comedian.

I loathe him and his smugness, and I disagree with lots of his ideas, and think that lots of his act is unfunny.

But there's probably an equal amount or slightly lower percentage of his ideas and material that I agree with and like.

My instinct is to feel I must either completely love or hate him, but I've come to reconcile myself to the fact that I don't have to go to such extremes.

I guess I can say he's alright overall.

I still can't forgive his eon-long rant about Del-Boy falling through the bar on Only Fools and Horses being voted the greatest comedy moment though.
    That's great visual comedy.

Yeah, I know. But it's a sort of fallacy. I usually look at Alive! knowing I'm going to disagree. It's just something that came to mind.

I love the bit on their front page that says over 300,000 papers in circulation, yeah, straight into the recycling bin...

Damn things keep getting left in our mailboxes.

It's natural and you see it everywhere. Take a look at any Norris or MGM thread here, each side often discounts the other sides arguments not just based on the merit of the post but often because of who the poster supports.

Much more common in religious or political threads but you see it everywhere.

(Obviously I do it myself, not claiming I don't).

No never agreed what ever messages they portray in Alive paper. A load of ould gibberish! Pure cult talking and brainwashing going on in it to be honest. I'd read it to see what they have to say for themselves on a particular issue. If I ever see it lying about the place it goes into the fire or into the bin. I have the urge to just tear it apart. Its in a dump is where it deserves to be. It's pure trash.

Though I don't read the tabloids and magazines much but they be better than reading the likes of alive.

The only paper's worth reading are the Times, Irish Times, The examiner, The Independent and the local paper.
