Absolute beginner advice...

    Hello all...

First time posting in this section.

Was on a stag over the weekend which included a round of golf. (Bairne gold course in Galway.) Didn't get to finish the round fully as it was mostly complete beginners and there were 4 of us playing at once. (Only got 6 holes in!) Really enjoyed it though. My current experience is nil, that was the only time I've played - although managed to get 2 parr's so no major complaints :)

I live in the ashtown area so Elmwood is just around the corner from me, was there once before on the driving range.

Question is really - how does one go about getting into golf?
What would your opinions be? Get to a driving range and get some practice in? Get some lessons? Play a few rounds?

I'm not in a position to shell out a lot of money until I think/know I will stay playing. Driving range/odd round here and there are no hassle but won't be buying clubs/joining up anywhere for the time being. Any advice much appreciated.... thanks all.

    Hi
My advice would be borrow clubs from friends/family.
Get one or two lessons from a pro and use the driving range to practice this
Also join a society. A local pub or the like will probably have one.
After all that you will know if golf is for you or not. Enjoy and good luck

First time playing golf and 2 par's in 6 holes. (thats 6 pars's over 18 holes)

Keep going at that pace and we will have another major champion on our hands!!

My advice would be to try find someone you know to play with, go to the range for a bit and buy a set of second hand clubs with bag for abt €150.

Thats what I figured! Hadn't thought of joining a society, great idea.

Thanks for the advice guys. And Irish Bloke, I don't think my flukiness will get me to the PGA! :D
