Looking for advice/ thoughts/ gut feelings on below...

I just moved to Perth from Dublin. I've been here a little over a week and have just started looking for work. I'm in IT and submitted my CV to a recruiter for a Software Test position, and had an interview today in the city. I have a strong CV with good experience and the interview went extremely well. So much so that at the end, the recruiter asked if I would be interested in joining their agency as an IT Recruitment Consultant, as they are looking to expand.

All things being equal (they're not really), what would you do in my case? I don't know anything about recruitment, and to be honest, I generally don't have a lot of time for recruiters or at least for their ethics

I'm pretty happy in IT, but also wonder about future potential. I would imagine that recruitment business is pretty prone to downturn

I think you really need to make sure you fully understand the role of recruitment. You will spend a lot of time reading cv's and trying to get companies to use your services. It really is a sales job, so only you know if that is for you.

With IT doing so well, and so many opportunities particularly in Australia, it would seem this is the time to really build your career in this area, so you can move up the ranks. I think it is evident there will be no downturn in IT for a very long time as we are all so reliant on it

Personally I would stick with IT, but that's just me. I don't think I'd enjoy a high pressure sales role at all, it's not for me.

    OP,
I had the exact same happen in Toronto a couple of years back. I am also in IT.
I declinded the offer as the base salary wasn't up to much and I dealt with recruiters enough to know it wasn't the type of role for me. I then landed a decent role in my field after that, so hang on in there if its not your thing, something better will come your way.
