A fanboy mate has offered me his iPhone 4 for £275 boxed with accessories, SIM-free. He looks after his stuff, so will be in uber-perfect nick.

I need a new phone and want an iPhone. Would like the faster processor of the 4S (my 3G is unusable compared to 3Gs so future-proofing is good) but the price is pretty damn good.

    What think ye?

I sold my year old iPhone 4 16GB a couple weeks ago for €425 so that sounds like a good deal to me

Thanks all. I'm buying it once his 4S arrives in a few days.

Yep, it is a 32g. It's been very very well cared for (the guy really takes care of his gear)... he's a good buddy from the office so I've zero doubts.

I should have said "fellow fanboy"... I really like my iPhone 3G (at least I did before iOS4 crippled it) and get great use of my iPad 1.

I'm getting the iPhone 4 so I can use facetime and Skype video calls on the go (I live away from family and have small kids). I'll flog my Flip Video camera that has served me so well for about £40, my iPhone 3G for about £100, and my Fujifilm 440 digital camera for god knows what, so the net cost of the multi-device upgrade will be pretty damn small.

The first of the 4S will be available to UK customers on the 14th October, so wont be long for you to get your hands on it :D

just one thing, are you sure its factory unlocked for you to use on an Irish network.

I absolutely love my iPhone 4 and I'm not in the least bit gutted about the 4s coming out 10 weeks after I got it. I've always kept just one step behind when it comes to new phones. I'm not playing that game of paying top dollar and being on waiting lists for new phones/technology. I'm hoping os5 will run quite happily on my iPhone 4. I love my gadgets but I've more sense than money. OP that sounds like a bargain - enjoy !

Huh? was the iphone 4 not the same price 10 weeks ago as it was on launch day?

since all the networks got it the price has dropped to "free" in most cases. (leaving out the contract and monthly price for the moment). people see the initial outlay as the biggest factor in getting an iPhone or not.

thats a lot cheaper than launch day last year when brand new 32GB unlocked versions from the Belfast store where selling for 850e plus online inc. adverts and ebay.

Not really. A fanboy will buy the new iphone just because its the latest fade. They dont actually need the new phone. They just want it because its new. They probably dont even give a crap about the new features

Just because you have an iPhone does not make you a fanboy.

Quite possibly but relatively speaking with new tarrifs and change in the length of contract the overall price just "feels" better.

€149 got me a white iphone 4 with a postpay tariff that suits my needs. When you factor in the cost of credit that I would have to buy if I was on Prepay for same usage my actual iphone cost me €329. I'm happy enough with that !

Update... just off to collect my iPhone 4 shortly.

And even more amazingly, I sold my iPhone 3G 8GB for £150 on ebay! Jaysus the bidder must have really wanted one for some reason. So just £125 to upgrade from a used and slightly scuffed 3G to a pristine 4.

    :)
