Wrong place for this, but a mod will move it.

HRTA is licenced to use pyro, including smoke, on site under certain conditions (instruction and safety briefings, training in use etc). No other site in the country, that I know of at least, has that licensing to legally use them. I stand to be corrected on that, but I'm fairly sure.

Would I be correct in my thinking that it would be the "Site" that would use and set off the smoke grenades, rather than all the normal skermishers running around chucking smoke grenades everywhere?

So they would be legal for sites to use once the relevant licences/permits are granted, but Illegal for ordinary folks use.

As far as I am aware, HRTA is the only site in the republic licensed to have pyro. For any other site, you need to be aware that airsoft pyro is classified as fireworks, and as such, igniting / throwing one is an arrestable offence.

Under the amended legislation in 2006 the following are offences:

If you ignite a firework or cause it to be ignited in any place, you are guilty of an offence. The offence of igniting a firework can take place anywhere and not just in a public place. It can include the garden of a private house.
If you throw, direct or propel an ignited firework at or towards someone else or at property, you are guilty of an offence.
If you have a firework with the intention of selling or supplying it to someone else (and you don't hold a licence to import it) you are guilty of an offence.

If you are found guilty of any of the above offences you are liable:

On summary conviction (in the District Court) to a maximum fine of €2,500 or to imprisonment for up to 6 months or to both.
On conviction on indictment (in the Circuit Court) to a maximum fine of €10,000 or to imprisonment for up to 5 years or to both.

This also applies to using black cats and the like as grenades / flashbangs.
If you come across an site that permits the use of pyro (smokes are included in the classification), check if they have the correct licensing and insurance. AFAIK,(and Im open to correction) they need a permission to use order from the gardai and they need a storage permit from the council and a license to transport / import from the Dept of Justice. If they dont have the above, leave the site and ask for a refund (on the grounds that you did not pay to partake in illegal activities). They are breaking the law and are doing untold damage to the sport of airsoft, as it gives the authorities the perfect excuse to ban airsoft instantly.

By frequenting sites like this, players are condoning illegal activities which could have long ranging implications for all of us.

You could have fooled me :D The little pricks around here have been throwing fireworks non-stop for the past week and not a sign of the cops stopping them.
(this is on the streets by the way - nothing to do with our beloved sport)

My brother goes to the patrician academy in mallow and he has nearly had his feet taken off by black cats  on numerous occasions. There is group of 5 little p*icks who are somehow being supplied in abundance and at every lunchbreak, every morning when school starts and in the evenings when school finish's their throwing them in amongst other students under cars bus's and in bins and its all happening 250ft from the fecking Garda station and not one of them in site

Also this has been going on for little over a year now
