In the middle of doing up my back garden, Just wondering what type of cable is needed. Basicly it be just for 6 outdoor lights pond pump and maybe a socket aswell,
the cable will be running along a wall not really goin under ground, Would i need to case the wire in plastic pipe,(codude i think its called)
wont be getting any lights done till next year, is it ok to run the cable around the garden and leave it till i get a sparks to hook it all up,
    thanks

    I prefer to use SWA
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Wire_Armoured_(SWA)_Cable
Its a bit more expensive and perhaps a bit harder to work with than NYM but once its done its done.
    see previous thread here

The overall length of the run and the socket will determine the final size

better off to get a sparks to do it or maybe get his advice first
you don't want to be putting in in now & having to re-do it or damaging cable with a shovel if you happen to be planting something better be safe than sorry!

Ill be getting a sparks to hook eveything up, but trying to do all the hard work myself to cut down on the price and im in the middle of doing the garden so trying the get the cable in before i lay the grass and fit the decking, so say next year i can just get the sparks in to hook it all up,
    thanks for the reply.
