SORRY THIS IS A BIT OF A RANT

right long story short stopped playing 40k bout 6-7 years ago, back at it now, been recommended Gamers World (great place) but i've been in GW twice in the past few weeks just for a gander.

the staff i remember (and have read about on these and other boards) where the ones who tried to sell you everything n the store and be your best buddy to try get you to buy stuff. i will admit i did enjoy their friendliness as most of the staff were genuinely nice people and you could have a decent chat with them, with the odd sale pitch thrown in for good measure of course!!!

but my last 2 visits (and first in many years) were a completely different experience. the first occasion me and a mate went in and he asked where the Necron stuff was, the guy very bluntly said they were no longer available in this store and were mail order only. i asked if the Necrons were getting the axe from the game and before i finished my sentence i was cut off with a stern "no". me and my friend looked at each other and just walked out. we couldnt believe how harsh he was, certainly not the staff we remembered.

putting it down to a staff member having a **** day i returned today looking for advice on a suitable model for a 40k Chaos Sorcerer Familiar. he tried to sell me two models that contained familiars which i wasnt interested in and then muttered something about mail ordering. he walked over to the computer and i followed him over thinkin he was goin to show me some models. after a few mins of him typing and clicking he looked up and realised i was still standing there and then just walked away!!! are they training their staff to be ignorant assholes now???

i guess its just the same **** different day for GW then...feels like i never left...

Never had any issues with any of the staff myself...
I do honestly believe it's either 1 single store with a bad atmosphere, or just bad luck on your side as I have always seen their staff as friendly, helpful,...

I don't think he was actually trying to show you anything in that second instance.

He probably thought you were a bit weird for following him around without saying anything.

No idea what the Necron thing was about. Maybe there's a local 'faction' that keeps hounding the red shirts about how Necrons aren't being supported anymore?

Necron's are due a new codex soon, the rumor mill is pumping out plenty of stuff on them and it nearly sounds like that "No" was a "Haven't you been keeping up with the news!" kind of No. Since the necron's are all metal and GW have moved over to a resin and are due to start releasing new models once the codex is announce they've just moved all the metal stuff to mail order.

Right now, Necrons are dead but They'll be back!

As for the shop in question, I haven't been near them for years, never felt quite right in there.

I used to dread going into the GW shop in Dublin. Remember staff constantly asking me questions about what armies I collect and coming up to me asking do i want help.
If i wanted help I would have asked for it, they used to come up to you every 2 minutes aswell.
Some of them were very pushy as well, one time one of them placed a book in my hands and told me I should read the first page, then he talked about how great it was and how I should buy it. It was quite annoying, seems they gone the other way now. Havent been in there for a while now go to the shop at Jervis instead.

Staff used to be told they HAD to sell, the manager in GW Blanch & Liffey St when I worked there were notorious for this approach; staff were given actual sales manuals & told to do what I felt amounted to badgering people. When a manager wasn't around we would greet people in store & if they needed help they would ask, was told to f**k off by a guy who was there with his kid because the manager thought I wasn't 'trying to sell' but I didn't mind. All in all some of the best years of my working life were in GW but the corporate attitude (& internal politics) of middle & local management Meant we went our separate ways. Like many ex staff was barred from the store for no reason but Gamersworld is where I get any supplies nowadays. Great atmosphere & staff.
