    Hi

Getting married next year in Ballinasloe and wondering if anyone has a contact for church singers or musicans from the surrounding area?

Open to all recommendations as we haven't made up our minds yet on what exactly we want!

    All suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance

You could go all out and hire Galway celebrity Julie Feeney I see she has it as one of her bids on www.fundit.ie
Her voice is incredible. Now that would be a treat for your guests.

We had Claire Sheerin as the singer/organist at our wedding and she was amazing. She's based near Athlone but travelled to Longford for our day. Everyone was raving about her.

My friend is doing our church music but at my sisters wedding in August we had Valerie Woods and she was just amazing.
She is based in Dublin but as far as I know she is happy to travel. She sang to backing tracks so it gave us a great range to choose from and she was happy to learn songs etc.

We had Claire Sheerin for our wedding in Kilronan Castle also and she was fantastic. She learnt a new song for our ceremony!! :)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post. Rhymning off names is of little benefit to me really though if I'm being honest.

I'm looking for a person specifically from the Ballinasloe area (as I've stated in my OP.) or at least within a 30/40mile radius. It means as much to us to have a local person, as it is that they aren't tone deaf! :p

We want to pay them for their talent, not to put fuel in their car!

    hi,
we're in the process of looking for a church singer as well. ideally we would also love to have someone from a 30 mile radius, just so there's no fear of them getting lost trying to find our church....i'm a bit of a worrier ;)
any musicians i've seen that would have to "travel" are only quoting us their usual price plus a nominal fee per mile travelled to cover petrol. And that's only if they have a good distance to travel. There are loads of beautiful singers in the galway region. Lucia Evans has the most beautiful voice but unfortunatley she is booked for our date :( I'm not too far from ballinasloe so i'd be interested to know who you eventually book. as i said we are currently looking and it's so hard to chose:confused:

Im from Ballinasloe and we have booked Nicola Mc Guire she is meant to be very good and she is from Galway PM if you want her number!

Rachel Goode is also from Ballinasloe but she is a bit pricey so we didnt go with the local!!

You could try talking to the choir in Ballinasloe Church's and maybe they could help ye out

I'll second that, one of the best voices day or night, didn't think she would have gone that far down though, never know though. Booked FAR ahead.

My cousin had her wedding the other week, she put up a sign at the October fair for a wedding singer and got a great response. I think Rosie Kearns was her name and cost €100. There were over 300 at the wedding and she wowed everyone with her singing, she also plays the concert flute and a medley of haunting tunes on it. Highly recommended.

Whoever you go with, ensure you view them at a wedding. Some bands are good with a crowd, bad at weddings, and vice versa. Mate recently viewed several bands at weddings before picking a band. As for "within 30 miles", unless they live next door to the venue they'll have travel costs.

    syco,
you probably mean good, but next time look at the question you were asked. A band was not asked for.

    clint silver,
yes, october fair. What's the problem? It was cheaper than newspapers and got a fantastic response, which was the primary reason for the advert. Needs be and all that.

No problem, I just havent heard of "october fair" before. Is it some sort of publication or an event? (noting of course the large google button on the side of my browser but started with the question here, so.... :) )

The Ballinasloe Horse Fair, at the start of October, thousands of people pour into the town so there would be a large captive audience for any advertisements around the place. Headmaster not everyone has heard of it outside of Galway, clint silver didn't mean anything bad by asking.

thanks acoshla, your reading of it was correct, I have heard of that festival but not by the term "october fair". So is there like an adverts board that people stick things up on like "singer wanted for church for wedding"? thats cool, all about exposure.

    Acoshla,
I never said the op meant anything bad by anything he said. I presume you are TRYING to read my words in YOUR own way. Also, if the op is not from Ballinasloe, then it doesn't matter and they cannot offer any help.

Insert singer into band, and you get the same thing. If you go to see a musician on a stage at a gig, be it singer, guitarist, or flute person, you probably know beforehand that you'll like what you'll see. In this case, the singer will already have the interest of the crowd.

However, if you're walking along a street (example; Shop Street in Galway city) you're not going to a gig, so a lot of people that may do great in a gig may not catch your attention. Some do, however.

My point is that although you'll be in a church, different settings will produce different results with musicians; some will be great at weddings, some won't. Like some bands are great live, or playing on the street, they may suck at weddings.

Either way, ensure you get someone that has done a wedding before in the church the size you'll be in.

At my best friends wedding, the tenor had to stand 6 feet away from the mic, as his voice was so impressive! His voice filled Galway Cathedral easily :)

Hi we got married a month ago and Claire Sheerin also was our church singer. She was absolutely amazing and all of our our guests were raving about her. She was very professional and extremely friendly. We had guest who are professional musicians looking for her details.

On our day the heavens erupted and Claire kept playing until all the guests had left the church. (Which took ages!!!)

    We can't recommend her enough.
You can get her details on http://clairesheerin.com/
