Every month I sign on at the dole office and every month I arrive early to get first in the queue standing there for like half hour, and every month there are guys in front of me and when the doors open at half nine the queue is MASSIVE and then their ''mates'' ( about five of them ) come and stand beside them at the queue and sign on with them. They dont go to the back of the queue and they just skip it. Security guards do damn all because they are rough lads taken advantage and they is scared of them.

does queue skipping happen at your local social welfare office? and if so, whats done about it?

If you have a problem with that, tell them. If nobody does anything about it, they'll keep doing it.

Happens everywhere. Get used to it or be ruder than them.

Well if no body says anything they'll continue to do it. If you want to get through to them you have to put it in a way they'll understand which means beating them around the head with a metal bar.

Relax, unlike yourself they have a job to go to after signing on, you wouldn't want them to be late, would you?

Why do people queue before the door opens :S The twice I've signed on in Drogheda, I've gone at about 11 o clock and been there 10 minutes with only a small handful in front of me.

Granted, Drogheda only askes you to sign on once every three months so maybe they spread the love out :P

I've seen it happen, but to be honest, it's once a month(or every three months depending on your office), it's not the end of the world and no one dies, so i don't let it worry me.

OP, on AH you are not going to get too many serious answers.

Yes it happens in the one I am unfortunate enough to go to. And the reason no one says anything is it is usually the scourge of the earth that are doing it and they all have at one stage or another more than likely been up for some sort of assault!

They are scumbags and no one says anything to them because of this, they are the ones that hit 18 and go on the dole as their birthday present. They go to the Dept of SW and demand everything under the sun and they don't care whether or not you are an upstanding citizen looking for work and have an interview in half an hour that you have to rush to!

Because there wasn't much of a queue when they first signed on during the boom-years, they don't see why thousands of newbies should hold them up from their routine at the pub and the bookies.

Exactly. The recession has been just one big inconvenience for them. You'd have to admire their tolerance of the situation.

In my local office sometimes they take the people from the top fo the queue and bring them to an interview room to see what the big rush is (ie are they going to work after) and then tell them they aernt allowed sign until later on in the day next time.

Simples. Become friends with them and then join them when you arrive.

Do we have to think of everything?

Only 'foreigners'(we all know the ones) get free fishing gear and PS3s...let us be clear here political correctness is gone mad/the media is stoking the fire/secularism is rising/Catholicism had a grip on on the country etc etc is the real reason for the state of the country at the moment.

Or why not just arrive before the guy who invites the skippers?

I think we should organise a charity group to raise awareness for their plight. How longer must they suffer in silence?

I used to see it all the time before I went back to college. It was worse at counters where you had to take a number, People would just pretend they were whatever number had been called (if whoever had that number didn't jump up) when they'd only been there 5 minutes. Did my head in!

Of course if you tried to use reason and peer pressure against a bunch of knackers you'd not likely get that sort of result.

You : "Excuse me, is everyone in this queue an asshole?"
Him : "What you say about my mah?"

I've had this happen to me too, and typically it happened on a morning when I was due for a job interview within the hour. I shot one of them the evil eye and just said, "I was before yous." He stared back at me and for a moment I thought he was likely to spit on me or something, but then he shrugged and replied, "Go'wan ahead then."

They'll do it for as long as they get away with it. Stand up for yourself OP.

Go in there with black dots painted all over your face and watch the queue scatter.

Always sign on in the afternoon. The mornings and straight after lunch are jam packed. 3-4 is the best time.

You should be thankful that your dole scum arent trampling people if they fall

In my local office they use CCTV and anyone caught skipping the queue is forced to sign daily for a month. Great idea in my opinion however whether they follow through with it or it's an empty threat I don't know.

You only think you're there first. The truth is they have been queueing since they were 18.

in the office I go to they split up the lines based on position in the alphabet. Normally the person doing the queue that isn't mine is about 10x faster then my queue so there will be nobody in the second queue but the first is almost out the door. What loads of people do is queue up for the wrong queue and get told to use the other hatch, so the skip the entire queue and sign on.

Some bloke tried to skip in front of me today and my reply was "Just because you don't know the alphabet does not mean you can skip the queue, back of the line you muppet"
