Movie Storage ???

    I want to transfer some movies i have on my 2008 24" imac to a ???
    So that I can watch them on my TV (Panasonic G10 plasma) No USB.
    It has a SD card reader on it but i can not convert to the type of files it reads and there is the size issue.
    I don't want my imac connected directly to the TV.
    Either a fixed box of some kind or some portable device but I have quite a few movies.
    With the fixed option i would store the movies permanently or the portable option would probably be one at a time as needed.
    As you can tell "i know nothing" so any help would be greatly appreciated.
