Please, can any one give a BASIC breakdown, in layman's terms the following from the level 5 communications module:

10.1.1 understand key terms used in communications theory such as
sender, receiver, message, code, channel, communicate, noise,
feedback, context, with particular reference to working life.

What I'm looking for is a basic explanation of the above terms, I just can't get my head around them!

    Many thanks in advance.

As with most FETAC modules, the SLOs can sound fabulously complex and technical, and can generally be brought to quite simple instructions. (There is the odd exception, I have an SLO in one module that I have no idea what the writer was getting at, so I ignore it)

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communication_theory. Yes, I know it is wikipedia, but it very helpfully demonstrates with a nice little diagram something like four of the words you are doubtful about. :D Once you have your head round that you will find the others easy enough!

Also note the words 'such as' in the sentence, so if there are one or two that seem irrelevant, substitute a couple more that make more sense ;)

I would suggest channel is as in 'going through proper channels'. Code as in telephone code for Dublin is... Feedback as in response to a suggestion. Noise ? as in providing a quiet work environment?

Well, that would be my interpretation anyway :)

Thanks for that, I went through it a few times, finally got my head around it, it was more the way the handout was worded!
