What's going on with my grant?

I sent my grant off at the end of August. Since then I've received a confirmation of my application, and the other day I had my birth certificate posted back to me in a brown envelope with absolutely nothing else inside, not even a note to say who it was from or anything.

    That's all I've heard.

I have until the end of this month to apply for Student Assistance Fund, but the application asks me do I receive the grant and how much I receive and stuff and I'm not able to fill any of this out as I have heard eff all back.

When you called them and enquired, what did they say?

They told me to make a thread on Boards.ie

... I thought I'd just check here whether this was normal practise before spending time & money ringing them.

Try emailing or ringing the county council - This is usual practice - some county councils are notoriously slow. Put a note with your application for the SAF explaining that you don't know if you will get a grant or not

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Before I say it I will admit that it's easy for me to tell you to be patient!!!

You only applied for a grant at the end of August, why wait until you receive a college offer to apply? Everyone was advised to apply early. So like it or not your application is behind thousands applied for in June/July.

It's unlikely that you'll have an answer before the end of the month (I hope I'm wrong!) but that doesn't stop you applying for the assistance fund. applications must be in by the end of the month, that doesn't mean you will have an answer during the first week of November, mostly assistance fund payments aren't made until December. Make your application and then submit the further info regarding your grant when it becomes available.

I applied for a fees only grant at the end of August and it was approved last Friday so don't lose hope.

If you are applying for the student assistance fund and you still have no notification by that point, I advise you to add a note explaining your situation and that you will update them once you hear. They are more than likely used to dealing with people in a similar situation.

    Good luck!

Fair enough. They should really move the deadline forward to about May then, if they know they are too inept to process all the applications on time.
