Solid debut with quite a bit of personal material in there like he was saying afterwards. Grimmer than any Meadows output too if people are bothered comparing. The right amount of humour in there to break it up a bit as well.

Btw, wtf was Jim Sheridan all about last night? Ruined the Q & A.

I saw Tyrannosaur a few weeks a go and quite enjoyed it. The only major complaint I've have about it is that's it's maybe too grim - exhaustingly so, maybe. And thought Colman was a bit twee, especially compared to the superb Mullan, but otherwise an impressive debut.

As for Meadows comparisons, I think they're only natural given the tone and setting, not to mention Considine's history with the man. It is distinctly different (less optimism for one), but certainly a few similarities.

This film with under the radar with me just heard about it now as it won most at the British Independent Film Awards, surprised that Peter Mullan is acting and not directing and vice versa with Paddy Considine anyways did he get a release over here already or was it limited to festivals only?

I thought it was really good, very downbeat though.

Great acting all round, honestly thought Olivia Colman's performance was one of the best I have seen and she deserves every award she gets.

Only caught this tonight & what a treat.
I normally don't go in for these working class stereotypical tales but this one really hits the mark.
The leads are fantastic & I would expect awards for their performances here.
Only issue I had is the way it's wound up, I would have like to seen about 10 more minutes of their future.
Not a happy ever after ending but I would have like to learned what sentence she got & what happened to Joesph once he moved on.

It's really a film that's all about the performances. I thought Mullan and Colman were tremendous. Impressive debut from Considine, but the script was a bit messy.
