Sky dish on a wall - can it be used?

    Hi,

A relative of mine just bought a house. It has what looks like a sky satellite on the chimney. He wants to get free satellite, and doesnt want to pay a subscription service to sky.

Can he just buy some sort of free sat receiver to avail of the dish?

Would it be much of a drama to install?

Freesat or free-to air satellite receiver - http://www.tvtrade.ie/satellite-receivers.html

Should be just plug & play if the dish hasn't moved and cabling is ok.

As the cush says it shouldn't be too much problem if dish hasnt moved and cabling is ok. If you knew anyone who has a spare or old sat box. maybe they would give you a loan of it so you could connect it up and make sure everything was ok. scan channels in on it and make sure you can see the channels. Then at least you will know you can just buy the box and plug it in.
I moved into a house and dish and cable was there. Got a loan of an old sat box and it worked fine
