I did it last year, very funny event. There were only around 30 in it. I'm sorry I can't do it this year. Also a kids' race.

I knew the Racepix one was on too, but the cloak one is local to me, and also Dennis McIntyre, the organiser, has done so much campaigning over the years to have Bram Stoker / Dracula recognised in the area that it would be nice to support the race. Were the 30 runners all v fast last year? I'd be sort of a 25 min 5k runner, so will I be trailing, last & alone, through Clontarf in a cape?

LOL, that was me last year praying nobody I knew would see me! Think I was about 26 mins and I wasn't last even though I got lost en route (!) so you'll be grand. It's a shame the race got such low numbers - it would be awesome to have hundreds of draculas running along the seafront.
The race was on the footpaths and there wasn't much by way of traffic management or marshalling so it's very much a fun run rather than a PB prospect!

Thanks very much, bungee girl. Yes, it would be cool if it was bigger. Are you doing it this year? Four of my friends are doing it as well as me, so there'll be at least five entrants! What's the route, by the way? Is it along the sea front and then back up Kincora Road or something? Thanks!

Don't think I'll make it this year unfortunately (have misplaced my cloak ). Last year's route was a loop from Clontarf Castle taking in the Howth Road (downhill), the Clontarf Rd (footpath on the opposite side to the promendade), then left up Castle Ave back to the start. It looks like there's a different registration venue this year though so route might change. Best of luck with it - you'll have a laugh if there's a few of you running together.

Thanks, Bungee Girl. that sounds do-able. Hope there are hordes of vampires doing it.

I would love to do this but am away that weekend. Its a pity its not on the halloween weekend as I reckon a lot more people would be in favor of dressing up then! Although I supposed maybe they were worried about clasing with the marathon.

This race is on tomorrow afternoon. The route this year is from St Anthony's Church to the wooden bridge & back. Should be fun!

Will the adult cloaks start flowing at 4 or 4.45 tomorrow?

It's been v confusing, as there were different times on RunIreland & on the race website. However, it's now on Run Ireland & on rahenyshamrock.ie as 4pm. We were also told after the Wednesday race in Raheny that the Cloak Race would be 4pm tomorrow. So I am 99% sure that it's 4pm! That's the time I'm aiming to go down for.

Cant help but think this should be done at night.
Otherwise the street sweepers are gonna be on overtime.

Thanks to all concerned for a really enjoyable trot along a super windy Clontarf. It's an awkward caper running with a cape through this. Some quality runners there & a wonderful post-race atmosphere plus fab fun for the kids too.:)

Serious contenders for the large Pot. With David Campbell in the field who owns a 3.58 PB for the mile youd assume it would be game set and match. He didnt have a bad run but could only manage 3rd behind a very impressive Mark Christie. Winning time was 15:02 which was very impressive into a Gale and wearing a cloak! The pace at the start was also extremely pedestrian for these guys as the first kilometer was a game of who wants to be windbreaker. His splits were roughly 8:10-15 out to bull wall and 6:45-50 back.

Great fun and one for the kids to be sure with the kiddies race.

Mark Christie is the form athlete at the moment having ran 13.28(maybe faster) for 5k and also has a pb of a 3.58 mile.
David Campbell has been recovering from injury over the last 12months.
2ndwas colin costello former european Junior 1500m champ, campbell 3rd and Gary O Hanlon 4th(winner of the athlone 3/4)5th Pat Mcarton(medalist in the national indoor 1500m)

It was great fun! Pretty good turn out & everyone had made an effort with the capes / facepaint etc. The wind actually added to the effect of all the capes as we ran down the sea front, as they were really fluttering about in the breeze.

The kids race was really cute, and it was lovely to see them getting their medals & books! Also, the one child who ran in the 5k was great!

And loath though I am to say it because the male winners were all real runners / top athletes etc, but I placed! I have a bronze Bram & everything! I am very surprised. And I know I would never have a chance of placing in a bigger race, but I love Bram Stoker & Dracula, so I'm really happy with my fab medal!

I saw Davy Byrne close on 5th from my vantage point some distance behind, i assumed hed get it, i think he normally does get his man. Up against some serious speed this time though.

The pace jumped after the turn and i saw Campbell was struggling to hold on to the lead 2 shortly after.

I presume the results won't be going up on the Bram Stoker site? I stupidly forgot to take a note of my exact time (distracted by my cloak, no doubt!) and because I am a nerd I like to write them down in my little notebook & compare times from race to race, so I'd love to have it!
