It's odd if true. The game surely has a status at least on a par with golf these days? The deomcratisation of rugby is one of the greatest things that's happened in Irish sport in the last 20 years imo.

well the radio has been on all day here on a certain radio station in the southeast, and no mention of the rugby whatsover when the news/sport was on... i think its a disgrace tbh, especially when the english premier league clearly gets priority

Call the station, ask them why. If nobody tells them, they'll think nobody cares.

true, i just find it stange more than anything else really, considering the men in green have stormed through to the quarter finals after an impressive performance! al they talked about has been gaa, premier league, horseracing and golf.. no mention of rugby at all:confused:

I heard it twice on 98fm today and once on spin in the hour that I was in the car earlier.

Bar All Ireland days, soccer always gets the most airtime. Strange that they wouldn't mention the rugby at all though.

No mention on Newstalk but they've had two full match commentaries on soccer so that's understandable, that's a really profitable get for them. RTE Radio 1 gave rugby fair enough coverage

They must have no interest in the rugby in Wexford :( Just listened to the 5pm news and nothing

D'Arcy is from Wexford, isn't he?

There was plenty of coverage about it on RTE 1 earlier today. George Hook was the discussion panel, so that probably helped.

yea d'arcy is from wexford, but at the end of the day it shouldnt even come down to where the players are from really, its the national rugby team representing ireland, not particular counties

Yeah, but you could ring the radio station and ask why Wexford's leading international athlete isn't even getting a mention on the radio.

If anyone has time they should send around an email to a few of these radio stations telling them to get their act together.

They had a load of time on it earlier, had a guy reporting from over there on for ages.

However Today FM is the worse, I can't stand the sports guy they have on during the week, his love for English soccer is to the point of obsession and he never uses a clubs full name when going through his reports, uses nicknames all the time trying to be down with the kids. Last year on the day of the Dublin City Marathon they were still leading with soccerball.

i live in london so my only source of rugby radio normally is newstalk in the evenings online. they have a playback thing which is handy. kieth wood on today sayin after match he and his son sang amhrain na bhian in sitting room. thought it was quite funny.
is there any stations that av specific rugby shows? bbc wales will be good this week. scrum5 on the i player will obviously be talking bout ireland tonight.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I think the IRFU made a big mistake in voting for the world cup to be held in New Zealand. Nothing against the New Zealanders but the time difference ment alot of the buzz around it wasn't there. If it was on in South Africa you'd have seen a far bigger buzz around the world cup and pubs full at weekends etc. So the IRFU scoored an own goal on that one IMO.

Of course the team underperforming again didn't help things either.

Can't have every game in European timezone. This isn't the only place rugby union is played in or aimed at growing in. NZ hadn't hosted since 1987 (co-awarded it in 2003 but blew it due to season ticket and sponsorship conflicts).

The buzz has been here, especially when Ireland were still in it. Goes for any country who made it to the quarters, really.
