    Anyone playing this bad boy?

Only a few hours in (Episode 2 + a short excursion into the item world) but am much preferring the difficulty curve compared to 3 (which I only lasted a few hours in :(). Funny script and helpful tutorials definitely help.

Have only played the 1st in any depth, and the basic game still hasn't changed, but I'm definitely pretty into this.

At least til Dark Souls shows up anyway.

yeah I played this quite a bit, got all the endings and stuff, definitely much better story wise than 2 and 3 were, really liked the characters.
Got into the Land Of Carnage bit but collecting all the weapons and crap would take ages so I moved on to Atelier Totori for now

I'm hearing good things about Atelier Totori? Is it good? I like that they've gone for a less jail bait character this time which means I might actually buy it.

The Atelier games are fantastic but they arent for everyone, it's pretty far from your standard save the world type RPG.
The adventurer system in Totori is pretty addictive, it rewards you and allows you to progress through the game in 4 ways:
-Battle: killing certain amounts of types of enemies and beating bosses and rare monsters
-Exploration: finding hidden areas, special landmarks and fully exploring maps
-Alchemy: creating new items and items with special properties
-Quests: completing certain numbers and types of quests like wolf hunting quests, item creating quests etc
each of those gives you points for each thing you do and with enough points you increase your adventurer license rank.
It's fairly addictive, just keep going back to do one more thing

I wish I was playing this (No ps3). At least with NIS games I wont miss it for long since they're so port happy.

Yeah, they definitely seem like the most interesting bunch since the first game.

I'm not too far in - episode 5. Any tips for good power levelling areas?

yeah level 5-2 is actually one of the best levelling spots, after clearing ti once from then on if you thow the yellow cube onto the purple are then break it you get +150% exp there and if you pass, I think 4 stronger enemy bills they become level 99 which gives huge exp (more than a level 300 monster)

looking to grab a copy of this.

    Currently playing Disgaea 3

I can't believe I've not encountered these games before now. I love the knowing humour and the way it glorifies grinding etc.

good strategy system too, the throwing is both a funny and a very deep system
the last tactics/strategy I played was Suikoden tactics, which was pure unadulterated bollox, but I reckon this is so good, it has the edge on FF tactics as well (which was thus far the best I've played).

But the best bit?; option for Japanese dubs. Nothing makes English sound like secondary-concern lozer-eze then English overdubs in Japanese anime and games.

Anyone got a cheap copy of this they'd like to part with?

Fell deeply in love with Disgaea 3. once I finish it I will be playing Disgaea 4, then eating my PS3 then spending the rest of my life not playing any new games.

I don't even like strategy/tactics based games too much, but this game actually does away with lots of the reasons why that is so (like the inability to just finish your ****ing turn without having to say, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend, defend to all the players you're not moving, and also waiting while monsters do the same)

the story-line is so fantastically ****ed up that even operas and crazy people would struggle to better it, and lastly, It looks beautiful.
I'm as thrilled as the next person that the spotty ugly teens of 3D graphics are over us and now things are looking slightly OK again and If SE are doing nothing else right, they're at least leading the way in making 3D graphics not make me want to vomit all over them.
but I like 2d graphics, I enjoy animation, animations animated by an animator who primarily draws with pens and inks. I personally believe you can fit more character and soul, and if nothing else I just like it more, so there.

Played about two hours of disgaea 4 last night now that I own a ps3. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The level of challenge is definitely the best I've seen from the disgaea games I've played.

Got this game last week. Just started chapter 2. Prefer it to Disgaea 3. Better tutorials etc.

Got over a hump and I'm into chapter 5 now. I do like it and it has really likeable characters but I'm not a fan of how stuff that used to happen automatically you have to do manually like skills and stuff.

Was away from the game for a while...and started chapter 5 same time as you. Finished the main story on Tuesday night with 80 hours on the clock! 10-5 caused me trouble until I discovered
    there's a hidden red block
. 5-2 is your best friend for grinding. :D

Finally decided to devote some time to this game (spent the guts of a year getting distracted by college and stuff :pac:) and have finished the campaign. Really addicted to it now! On to the post game content and all the complex systems that go along with it.
