Water in the Phoenix Park

I've been preparing for the Dublin Marathon and doing most of my running in the Phoenix park. I find when I do more than 10k I really need water. Say on a 20k run I'd probably like to have about 1L of water. What's annoying is that I don't think I've ever seen any drinking taps around the park, which would be nice to fill up my water bottle because I usually only like to bring a small 250ml bottle of water with me, which just isn't enough for long runs.

Can anybody tell me if they know of anywhere in the park that has a tap?

I don't know the park very well so can't help you there.

What you could do is leave a big bottle somewhere and run loops passing by the bottle every 8-10K. Tie it up in a plastic bag if you're worried about dogs getting at it. You can't guarantee it'll be there when you come back but I've never had a problem doing this.

There is a water tap close to the polo grounds. It's (I think there are two) found on the fence behind the car park, I think the fence surrounds the zoo/the Aras. I'll see if I can pin it on a map for you later sometime. Be warned however that the tap is not always on, I've been caught out once or twice.

There use to be a tap at the OPW but that is gone now. Best bet is to do as suggested above and try and dump a bottle somewhere that you double back on.

Get a 2L Camelbak pack for about 20 quid on wiggle.co.uk.

I ran in the park today and ventured up to Farmleigh House and there is a tap in the car park there - I've not seen the ones around the Polo grounds and I ran passed there as well today

Its on the left hand side if your headed towards the zoo. Its before you get to the main building. Its directly on top of a barrel.

Put your bottle into a hole in a tree, plenty there and the odds that it will still be there when you come around are high!

There's plenty along the walk up to the house too, they're closer than the car park and the avenue is pedestrianised so nicer to get to. They're along the fencing and presumably are for the horses and cattle, I never had the need for them but usually use them for the dogs.

I sometimes buy a bottle of water in the shop at the top of Infirmiary Rd, right beside the Park gate.
