    hi John

I used a product called Krust ( spelling maybe wrong ) from Halfords ,which after applying to the cleaned down area is supposed to return it to steel ( turns a dark blue. ). you can then prime it and if the area is small enough use the paint/sealer from a merc dealer ( paint code should be on the metal plate attached to the slam panel at the front of the engine compartment ) .

I did this will fairly good results on my silver merc. best of luck and preparation is every thing

    regards

    Hey John,

You have a number of choices:

1, Sell your car (moral) as is, I assume its a E series given the rust area however you will only get around €1k for it.

2, Cut the rust out properly (back to real metal) and weld in new arches/metal and paint and color match professionally (moral) and this method may get you up to €2k.

3, Bodge the job, rub back the rust and apply a treatment that will last 12 to 24 months (Moral alert). Spray with halfords rattle can and put stick on chrome arches on the car to hide the bodge. This will get you around €1.5k from a sucker who has no car knowledge.

The choice is yours but if you care about the car at all I suggest selling as is hiding nothing and then the next owner can bring it back to life.

cheers for replies. its actually my fathers car but ive never been 1 to hide anything when sellin stuff so think my best option is to leave as is...its only cosmetic but im sure in time it will get worse. have car since new, but now it just sits out back so thats why talkin about sellin on.. at the time he was suckered in by by a good sales man...when he went back after few years to try and upgrade the very same salesman more r less made little of car (E240 avantgarde) engine to big for insurance and big tax...still great to drive but no point in holdin it here when someone else can enjoy it.. cheers again for replies.
