Fixed Charge Offence

I've received a letter alleging speeding and thus commission of a fixed charge offence.

The thing is I can actually recall the van in question on that day and it had no markings whatsoever on it.

    This from the Garda website:

What will the safety cameras look like?

On a phased basis, GoSafe will provide 6,000 enforcement hours and 1,475 survey hours per month across the country. For the 6,000 enforcement hours, the cameras will operate from vans which will be marked with high visibility reflective material and will display a safety camera symbol. Images of the vans are available on the Garda website – www.garda.ie.

The survey hours will be conducted from unmarked vans, in order to accurately observe and record the speeds at which vehicles are currently travelling, for survey purposes only.

So, do I have any recourse here? How can I claim that the van was unmarked and thus only surveying when it's just my word and I have no other proof of my own? Can I request this information? There is no appeals process so I would end up having to go to court to plead my case?

    Thanks.

    Yup. You've been GATSO'd

    Thanks for the quick replies.

One other straw to grasp at :)....... the reference no. on the notice is S0183..........

I suspect there is one numbering convention for GATSO and another for Go Safe. Anyone able to shed any light on this?

    Thanks again.

The reason I ask is that the go safe vans dont really appear in 50/60 zones. Was the road signposted that there was go safe vans operating in the area???

I've only ever seen the Go Safe vans in 50 and 60k zones, most recently in a 60 zone this afternoon. And signs don't need to specify who is operating the van.

Man up and accept you were speeding.

I regularly see marked Go Safe vans in 80km zones......

In several areas around Galway the same camera van zone has 50/60/80 limits along parts of the same zone and the vans can regularly be seen in any part of the Zone

The go safe vans do not operate on that road according to the map. It was obviously a Garda gatso van that caught you, hence no markings as I said in my first post.

You're right, Corkie. I checked the map location map when it was first released and what I thought was a Go Safe zone is, on closer inspection now, the local road between Threecastles on the R693 and the N77.

Right, where's my laser card ......

That location was always a regular spot for the Gatso van out of Kilkenny station long before Go Safe ever existed.

You should visit the N2 dude. Or Drogheda. Nothing but 50/60 monitoring.
