    Main Card

    Edgar vs Maynard
    Aldo vs Florian
    Sonnen vs Stann
    Guillard vs Lauzon

    Prelims

    Garcia vs Phan
    Maia vs Santiago
    Pettis vs Stephens
    Beltran vs Miocic
    Zhang vs Elkins
    Simpson vs Schafer
    Cantwell vs Massenzio

Looks good, but you never can tell...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,323 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Yeah, this is an absolutely mental card! Stacked from top to bottom! Should be awesome!

    Great card alright.

Any predictions, particularly for the main event?

After waiting so long for a rematch Maynard and Edgar must de gagging to get at each other.

Edgars recovery from the first round of the last fight was amazing but there is little between these two.

Sonnen v Stann is another one I'm dying to see (and hear).

I hope to hell pettis stephens makes the tv card
i hate to have to watch that one on facebook

Can't wait for this card. On paper it has the potential to be a fantastic night. Can't decide on the outcome of Edgar-Maynard. I hope Edgar wins though, he's one of my favourite fighters.

According to the ufc website it is on the tv card. I think its on the Spike card.

i hope sonnen beats stann, cant stand that lad, bad match from the ufcs point of view, sonnen can sell fights, but he cant slag off the all american hero

    He'll find a way.

The last one I heard from Sonnen was that it was Iron Man (him) VS Captain America.

Aldo is going to give Florian an absolute beating. Florian shouldn't be fighting at featherweight.

All the other fights are good.

I completely disagree with this! At first I was confused by it, but it's a genius move by Joe Silva. They can only win here!

Middleweight has been cleared out, this fight means the next MW title fight is a massive draw!

Sonnen wins, they have the biggest rematch possible at the moment, the interest is massive!

Stann wins, they have their love-him/hate-him, hardly plays the game MW Champion against Mr.American Hero! Another massive title fight!

    Win-Win for UFC!

I don't know, Florian looked like he had energy for days against Nunes and Hominick showed the bringing the pressure on Aldo makes him look human.

Florian is good at that type of fight. I would expect him to make it competitive.

And with regard to the Sonnen fight it just made sense to muzzle him a bit with this being his first fight back from assorted issues.

Great card, prolly best of the year.

    Maynard - Edgar
I like Maynard actually, think he's no bullsh*t. I reckon Frankie will win because he's very adaptable but just doesn't excite me at all. I think the next wave of 155ers challenging for the title are better than both these guys.(Henderson, Melendez, etc...)

    Florian - Aldo
All depends on Florians ability to surive(till at least round 3) and to take Aldo down. We do know Jose can be taken down and Kenny has decent ground and pound, particularly elbows. In saying that, Nunes dropped Kenny 3 times and if Aldo can do that once it will prolly be fight over.

    Sonnen - Stann
Sonnen has a great chin. Stann has been dominated by wrestlers in the past(albeit bigger ones). Unless Stann can avoid being taken down or has a great triangle, I reckon Sonnen gets a decision.

    Guillard - Lauzon
Again, similar story. Can Lauzon get him down or even pull guard and entice Melvin in. I think Melvin won't fall for it and I see Lauzon getting knocked out viciously.

    Guillard, Sonnen, are winnign imo.
Also should win, but I'd never right off Kenny. I think he is a great guy, but i want Aldo to win.
I'd like Edgar to win, but Gray will bring it.

    Countdown show is up!

I'm actually excited for this Main Event, this really is gonna be a war! I can't think of another possible title fight right now that would be so evenly matched!

The prelims alone would make for a decent fight night card!

Are the Spike PreLims gonna be on ESPN does anyone know? Always like watching Pettis fight

Don't think so no. They've not been on ESPN for a while now. I'm sure there'll be streams up though.

I've noticed the last few times on facebook that after the facebook fights end it shows the spike prelims after by clicking on another box.

Lookin forward to the Maia fight aswell, thought he looked good against Munoz at 131 despite the loss...

Looks a very good card all the way through though cant wait should be quality !

Personally think if Guillard wins he'll face the winner of Edgar vs Maynard, Gilbert Melendez has a fight scheduled in Strikeforce for December so they wont pull him across until after that I wouldn't think... Henderson I think is 1 more fight away, possibly against Guida...

    .

Yeah he seems to be putting a lot of work into the weaker area's of his game. He has come a long way from the days of just ripping your arm off.

Shame however ESPN stopped showing the spike prelims and we wont see it unless there are a few quick finishes on the ppv card.

The tv show is 4 hours long so good chance of seeing them

Just watched the weigh-ins for this and it's hard to believe how much of an unbelievably stacked card it is. I was actually happy to see the Phan/Garcia fight is on the main card as it's the only opportunity to go use the bathroom or something, even though it's still a great fight.

Guillard/Stevenson alone is enough to headline a smaller card and that's the first fight of the night. That one is going to be a barnstormer. Florian looked slightly better at the weigh ins than he did last time although he still looked like he had scales on his back. I can't see that one going five rounds at all. I'd like a good scrap in the Maynard/Edgar fight too but I hope that doesn't go five rounds either as I'd like a decisive finish.

UFC is really putting out some strong content these days. Only feels like yesterday that we'd be a month and a half building up to a Chuck Liddell fight. I think if I lived in America and was pay-per-viewing all these at $55 a pop I'd be going bankrupt now. Can't wait for this tonight :D

The Spike prelims should be free on ufc.tv for UK/Ireland viewers.

$55 is expensive considering ESPN costs €15 odd a month.

Some month you could get 2 events.

It'll go that way here eventually.

I get ESPN for free on my Sky Sports Pack, i used to pay €15 extra and I still thought it was amazing value!

Main event 2am on ESPN, Prelims start at 11pm on facebook I think.

    Cantwell v Messenzio up first.

I've always liked Cantwell (although he's had a few questionable moments). Must be hard to see his old buddy Brian Stann potentially up next for a title shot next and himself stuck down the ladder on the prelims.

On a bad run and I hope he pulls it back around

I've unfortunately gotta miss this one tonight. Can anyone recommend a good site to watch the fights tomorrow? mma-core is alright, but the quality usually isn't great.

& I can't use torrents...my college has blocked them. Gay.

Someone on the forum has recommended some Facebook page of a dude who uploads fights the next day in high quality. Can't remember who but i'm sure somebody knows.

Great first fight. Hard luck on Cantwell who started really strong but couldn't keep it up. Great stand up war!

Yeah that first fight was a war.

Aaron Simpson vs. Paul Scholes is turning out to be decent too.

Very one sided though. You'd think after all these years someone would've told Eric Shaffer he has the stand-up skills ofa giraffe and he needs to try take fights down!

Zhang mustn't have any sponsers. I don't think I've seen that before.

No, plain UFC shorts. Guy's fighting at the highest level and has no sponsor! And it's not even his first UFC fight.

I'd love to see him pull out the win here! Not a good first round for him though!

Yeah I'd like to see him do well in this too. He's probably only going to come away with a few grand if he loses. He seems like an unpredictable fighter but really isn't creating much.

I wonder if he has some kind of philosophical objection to sponsership or something, maybe it's just a really bad manager.

Oh wow he has a vicious choke on now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,323 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Very disappointed in Zhang. Elkins might as well have been in there with a training dummy!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,512 ✭✭✭Oh_Noes

Welcome addition to the heavyweight division in Miocic even if he does look like Michael Bisping in Crocop's shorts.

I would have had Beltran down as one of the better heavyweights who doesn't collapse after the first round and Miocic is very composed and looks very skillful and very physically fit for a heavyweight.

Edit: Scrap that about Miocic's conditioning, he looks wrecked suddenly :pac:

Anyone see Aldo at the weigh ins,he ran out and all that, looking like the weight cut was fine but when he had to give a few words I thought I saw his eyes kind of trying to focus and refocus for an instant,as if he was a bit dizzy.

Well, Aldo has regularly stated that the weight cut is pure hell for him...so i wouldn't read too much into it. He always seems to be fine for fight night.

Depending on how you define fine,I wonder can Florian stay functional until Aldo starts to gas.

That was a very disappointing fight in the end, I'd been looking forward to that since it was announced and it turned into a real bore.
I've probably lost all my interest in Maia at this stage, he looks pretty ordinary now compared to his old fights
