Aerial for DTT

    Hi all,
I am hoping to buy a small TV for the kitchen which I am connecting a free to air sat receiver to. With a bit of luck I should be able to get a TV with an Mpeg 4 DTT interface on it that will with with irish DTT.
The issue is I have the house cabled, but one cable to every TV point and the one going to this point will have a sat at the end of it.
The question, can DTT be picked up via a small "indoor" aerial and if not is there any way I can "share" the cable I have to ensure Sat and DTT are going to the TV through it? The cable by the way goes to a junction box outside the house and there is an option to put an aerial on a pole that this is connected to.
    Appreciate any help in advance.

The use of an indoor aerial will depend on the DTT signal strength and quality where the aerial is located in the house. Generally they work best in close proximity to a DTT transmitter but even then can be subject to interference. You could try out a cheap one from a €2 shop.

DTT and satellite can share a single cable without interfering with each other. Use one of these combiners at each end to (a) combine aerial and sat feed and (b) at the TV end to separate the feeds. This wallplate will also work at the TV end for a tidier job.

    Excellent.
    Sorry, just one clarification.
There is a UPC MMDS "Mesh" aerial on the top of the pole that is cabled down into the "junction" area. Can this be used as an "aerial"?

    UHF aerial required.

DTT is transmitted in the 470-790 MHz range, MMDS in the 2500-2690 MHz range.

Use the Saorview coverage checker to find the transmitter recommended for your location which will determine which UHF group aerial will be required.

just to ask a silly question, if i use the combiners, the one on the roof, will that be ok as is or should i put it into a junction box,or will i have to join them in the attic, I taught i'd have to run another cable, should make things a bit simpler, thanks

I'd keep the combiner in the attic, out of the weather.
