Car rental repairs in Portugal

I am looking for advice regarding options after car rental in the Algarve. We rented a Flat doblo for 10 days but there was a minor crash that resulted in what appeared to a minor dent and one of the fog lights was pushed inside the front bumper although it still worked. I have just received the bill for this (after they took the payment from the credit card). The bill seems greater than the damage. Total €412 euro with replacement parts 70 euros and work €342. I don't know what they had to replace. The bill is in Portugese with lots of abbreviations that I cannot translate it. It was not one of the major international rental firms. I did not see any other damage to the vehicle when I got it that they could be doing me for.

Do I have any means of challenging this from Ireland or do I just have to put up with it? I did not have the extra insurance and over the years I have saved more money by not doing so than the cost of this bill.

    Thanks for any advice.

Maybe for Irish standards it sounds right but take in mind the average salary in Portugal is €650, how much would labout on that repair cost per hour?

Damage to hire car and only getting a bill for €412 sounds like a miracle to me.

The other side of that argument, is that a main dealer repair here would be a new bumper, new foglight, new foglight bracket, paint, and labour coming close to 800/900. So by Portugese standards, I still say it's about right.

I have a feeling the bill would be considerably more frightening in ireland.

Plus the rental company no doubt took an "adminstrative" charge as well.

Yes but that is not what is in the first post, is it?
€70 parts will not get you what you summed up, neither here not in Portugal.

I focus on the 342 for work which sounds high to me.

Now, whether it is high or not. Dont think you can't do much more than accept it. The fun of renting a car abroad.

Doesn't matter what's in the first post. The rental car company is quite entitled to charge for an entire new bumper, all the foglight ancillaries and all the labour. And by that logic, I agree with mickdw - the OP did pretty well.

Who was the car rental company, we got shafted in Portugal by a small car "firm"

In fairness, the car is off the road while being repaired.

I killed an alloy on holidays last year and it set me back €300.
