Chanel Lipstick worth it?

    Hi guys,
Basically its my birthday this weekend and I wanted to invest in some new makeup. Maybe a lipstick, nail varnish and an eye shadow. I would be quite into my makeup anyway but have most experience with MAC and Benefit but none of the other expensive brands. What do you guys recommend? Are Chanel lipsticks worth the cost? I bought a foundation there last month and I wasn't impressed. What would you guys recommend for the three things I was looking for? I'm blonde and fair and mostly wear pinky lipsticks, my dress is plain black so I wouldn't mind an eyeshadow that's slightly different to jazz it up.

I can't comment on Chanel ; but for make-up in general I'm a Clinique fan. They are great for make-up as well, not only skincare.
I have tried many brands of nail varnish, and to be perfectly honest, the cheap pharmacy brands are my favorites. For some reason they seem to cover much better and last much longer than their expensive counter parts. Enjoy your birthday!

I don't know about Chanel lipsticks, but yesterday I picked up the Lancome Le French Absolu Lipstick #100 Rouge 29, it's a limited edition and is expensive, but it's something that will last for ages (it'll last me ages as I don't wear lippie often, I don't know how often you wear lippie). It has a slight glossy effect, it's creamy, it doesn't dry your lips out either (it didn't dry mine out).

Here are two photos of it I got from Google images.

I don't recommend the Chanel nail varnishes though, I bought some and to be honest, they are the worst I have ever used.

They are watery, don't dry properly (and those that did dry, took ages to dry), they just aren't worth the money. I have cheaper nails varnish (Rimmel, BarryM, 17, Natural Collection, Essensce, Nails Inc, Essie) that are far, far better and a lot cheaper than Chanel.

That lipstick looks lovely, how expensive is expensive? I have been known to spend 20-25 on a lipstick but probably wouldn't go higher. I've heard great things about Nails Inc nail varnishes but I haven't seen anywhere that stocks them where I am (Galway). With regards to Clinique, I have used their foundations and powders before and found them great but their lipsticks and eye shadows just don't have the wow factor for me.

I have never tried Chanel personally but I do know and like the Make Up For Ever line, I always thought their lipsticks were pretty intense and colorful and a friend of mine swears by them. If you're looking for a specific color I bet you can find a cheaper dupe somewhere!

That lipstick is €30, it's limited edition.

Most places in my town (Mullingar) have less than 5 in stock, maybe in larger towns/cities they may have more in stock.

I wouldn't normally consider spending anything more than €10-€15 on a lip gloss or lip stick, but this one is worth it, I think anyway.

I don't know of any Nails Inc Stockists in Galway unfortunately (I am in Mullingar, so have to buy online).

You can purchase Nails Inc from http://www.asos.com/ and they have free shipping, or you can purchase from http://www.nailsinc.com/ themselves, and shipping is £12 sterling.

ASOS also have up to 50% off some items until 8am tomorrow morning.

Esteé Lauder nail polishes are very good, I have one "Fuchsia", I got mine on eBay for around €12 though, they are €20 to buy in store.

I have two Clinique lippies, neither of which I am a fan of tbh. Their eyeshadows are ok, although I have other (cheaper shadows) that I'd choose over Clinique.

Bobbi Brown eyeshadow are fab though, I have "Moonstone" it's the long wear metallic e/s, it's long lasting, easy to apply, doesn't crease, smudge or wear off. I think they are around €20, but I'm not sure.

Esteé Lauder eyeshadows are very good too, I have this palette http://www.beautyemporium.ie/product_p/el100.htm (purchased from the Beaut Emporium) and absolutely love it, it's similar to the UD Naked Palette, just not as many colours (I think, I don't have the UDNP).

My sister who's a make up artist with Bobbi Brown (owner by Esteé Lauder) said the eye palette is real even though it is cheap (for EL anyway).

Thanks, there was a chemist in Galway that did the Makeup 4 Ever line, my friend swore by their foundation but the chemist stopped doing it! :(

I bought a Chanel lipstick for my wedding and I loved it. Very smooth and creamy, didnt dry my lips out and lasted for ages. I don't use lipstick very often but it's an investment. It's nice to have one or two decent lipsticks.

I did a search and this popped up, hopefully this isn't the same place!

Thanks for the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow suggestion Purple Bobbin, I was considering buying one as they do look very good and look like they'd be long wearing. That lipstick you bought looks really nice but I think it might be too much of a deep pink for me. Have you ever tried Laura Mercier stuff?

No, thats not the place Chicken Butt but thanks for that. She'll be delighted when I tell her that that shop stocks her foundation.

I couldn't disagree more with this - I love Chanel nail polishes and I didn't experience what you experienced with the nail polishes that I bought at the Chanel counter. They dried really quickly and weren't watery at all.

Back to lipsticks ... Tom Ford lipsticks are meant to be fab.

It's the only Bobbi Brown e/s I have and to be honest, I would spend the €20 on BB e/s as they are worth it, I think anyway.

House Of Fraser sell Bobbi Brown, if you are buying a lot of their stuff, it might work out cheaper by buying in sterling than in Euros

I have this brush and have to say I absolutely love it. It is amazing, I use it to apply the skin foundation and the natural matte finish foundation and it applies them so flawlessly, I don't have to use my fingers/a sponge to even it out/get rid of any streaks, etc. It's quite small though.

I havethese foundations as well, and love them, I prefer the skin foundation though.

this is the e/s I have http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Bobbi+Brown+Metallic+Long-Wear+Cream+Shadow/127861371,default,pd.html - you only need a tiny bit (I think anyway) so it should last ages. I am mad to get it in other colours lol.

I have this in both black ink and violet int and absolutely love it, don't know how much it is though I would guess it's around the same price as the eyeshadows

    http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Bobbi+Brown+Long-Wear+Gel+Eyeliner/735058946,default,pd.html

I have this as well, though tbh, it's just like any concealer really.

    http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Bobbi+Brown+Face+Touch+Up+Stick/126745742,default,pd.html

I have this brush and it is fab. It's been used and washed so many times and hasn't shed or lost it's shape. It's my favourite brush, though I think it is being discontinued, though I'm not 100% sure about that.

    http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Bobbi+Brown+Bronzer+Brush/120746033,default,pd.html

I have this brush and to be honest, I don't like it at all. It gives a very thick line of liner I find, but if you like that, you may like this brush, I prefer a thin line of liner as a thick line doesn't suit me.

I have this as well and I love it. It smells fab (I think, although it might be a but strong for some) only thing is, it does leave a shine on your face, which you might like, but I prefer a more matte look (for daytime anyway).

Another thing with Clinique, I used two of their mascaras before one was called "high impact" and I can't remember the other two, have to say, I wasn't impressed with either of them.

I have YSL faux cils and bits flake off it so I wouldn't buy it again, while I love how it makes my lashes look, I just don't like the flaky bits.

I haven't tried Laura Mercier stuff, but I have heard good things about their cosmetics though.

Haha, you have alot of stuff! :) I have the Bobbi Brown skin foundation, I got it the other day. I find the coverage a bit light but when I build it up a bit I like it. Ya I think I'll definitely have a look at the Bobbi Brown eyeshadows. Laura Mercier has some lovely stuff, they're very dear though. As for the Tom Ford recommendation Tinkerbell, I dont think thats on sale in Galway. Have never seen it anywhere here anyway.

I went in there a few months ago looking for the makeup forever hd foundation and they no longer stocked it. They did have other MUFE products eg. eyeshadows but the lady said they had no plans to get the foundation back in and even when they did have it, the stock that came was quite random shades.

Thanks for all your help guys. In the end I got this:

    http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com/templates/products/spp/index.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY22752&PRODUCT_ID=PROD12800

I got it in the Black Cocoa colour and I got my usual MAC Select Face Powder. I couldn't find any lipsticks I wanted and I nearly died when the girl on the Laura Mercier counter told me their prices!

Out of curiosity how much are the Laura Mercier products?

Well the eyeshadows are like 27 euro and their bath souflles are like 60 euro or something. I didn't ask about the prices of anything else, sorry!

    :eek::eek: That is crazy expensive!

That's ridiculous!! Why are the prices for high end makeup so much more expensive in Ireland?

I know ya! My friend was looking at their cream eyeliners though and she was saying that they looked brilliant (she's a beautician). She was afraid to ask how much they were though! :)

I got a present of a Christian Dior lipstick once and it was the best I ever had :D Lasted me 3 or 4 years. Also, I love the Lancome Juicy Tube lip glosses :D

I'd second dior for lippies and nail varnish. Dior nail varnish is the best i've ever used, dried with 30 seconds and if you use the top coat with it it lasts a good few days without chipping. I've never found chanel anything to equal dior, even though chanel is much more popular. Weird eh? MAybe its just me?

Can anyone who has tried a mufe foundation give any opinions? I'm really interested in them but find their clarendon st store a bit daunting, you get hopped on within about 30 seconds!!!
