Non-Use or Past Owner Period?

    Hi guys,

Quick question - just taxing car and filling out RF100A form.

I bought car on 22nd August so am due to pay Aug, Sept, Oct.

Have checked on motortax.ie and the last tax disc on the car expired on 30th Apr 2011. The car was sitting on the forecourt of the dealers in the interim period. So I need to declare this on the form.

I've read the notes but am confused by them. Question is: Do I declare the time (May-July) as a "Non-use Period" or as a "Past Owner Period"? Copy of form here

I know this seems a stupid question but honestly not sure.

Any help appreciated as always. Thanks in advance :)

you brought the vehicle on 22-08-11 so you just need to tax it from them

you are not concerned about previously off the road as it wasnt your car to declare if it was off the road or not

you could wait for the motor tax documents to be posted out to you so you or you could just walk in and pay

You have to declare it as previous owner period.

By declaring it off the road, you would pretty much could make false declaration, as you can't be sure it was off the road.

PS. Considering it's already 29th of September you might wait until next week to tax it from beginning of October (assuming you didn't use the car on public road in September).

You need to declare 01-05 to 22-08 as previous owner period as you do not know if it was off the road or not, then tax it from 01-08 assuming you began using it as soon as you bought it.
