Good question (because I don't know the answer). If Mary is eliminated before Dana, when Dana is eliminated, does this get counted for Sean or does it expire?

Dana goes out first, your vote goes to Mary. Sean goes out, Gay goes out, then Mary goes out, your vote goes to Martin. Martin goes out, and your vote goes in the bin, and doesn't help decide whether David or Michael D. wins.
