Has "politician" become a byword for dishonesty?

How many are in it for the Powaaar?

Anyone got an idea of how to make this very important aspect of our daily lives respected?

should this be moved to humanities?

In Terry Pratchetts fictitious discworld country 'Three Ecks' all politicians take their office in jail, going there immediately after a successful election. As this is a particularly pragmatic country such a measure was introduced to 'save time'.

Douglas Adams also has few nice quotes around the subject effectively saying that anyone who manages to get themselves into a position of power should under no circumstance be allowed to do the job they're aiming for.

    Disclaimer:
I know, I probably never really grew up and one may argue all this is 'younger readers' stuff as they call it these days - and probably silly stuff at that. But I cant help but think there is a lot of wisdom in these little fragments all the same.
