:( Can someone explain why it may be necessary to avoid alcohol after an extraction? I'm dying for a drink tonight, especially after the experience in the Dentists! Is it one of those standard caveats that Doctors give?

    It not necessary...

Sometimes we say it as it may interfere with pain killers or antibiotics... This is minimal to nothing in most cases

BUT alcohol while taking flagyl/ metronidazole is a big No No- will make you as sick as a dog

If after a general anaesthetic or IV sedation, it is sensible not to drink as alcohol is another depressant and may add to any residual meds in your system

Alcohol may add to some nausea that you may be experiencing so don't drink if nauseous....

My general rule is, yeah have a drink but don't go mad.... (except flagyl as above)

    OS
