I felt like a complete fool not negotiating a price before hand. Feel ripped off,was I? I have vouchers from Living and Social, did they inflate the price because of this or is E75 a fair price?. Didn't seem like that big a job, taken in a bit, size 24 and sleeves shortened by an inch, surely shouldn't be E75? :(

It does seem excessive! I'll ask my mam tomorrow, she's a wagon for buying and altering later, surely she's done leather by now!

But just to compare another, a mate got the sleeves shortened on a vintage real fur coat and it cost her €50 at a furrier. I'd imagine dealing with fur is a bigger job than leather. Is it a specialist company/service?

Leather isn't like sowing fabric - you may need specialist equipment, depending on the leather type, thickness etc.

However, I can't comment on the price - I have no direct experience there.

Depending and what you wanted done, that seems like a fair price. Leather is a nightmare to sew properly.

You need special needles etc. I'd say It would take twice as long to alter than a lined blazer.

Even if its just kaen in bit,it had to be reshaped and the excess removed to sit well and the lining adjusted. Sleeves are a pain too, remove cuff, shorten, reduce seams, reduce lining, reattach cuffs, you'd be surprised how long this takes.

So was E75 fair? wore the owner down in relation to acceptance of 2 living and social vouchers, actually felt sorry for her at the end, think she gave in because she found me too difficult. The dispute was over 2 separate living and social vouchers of different denominations would be accepted,I wouldn't have pushed it though if I hadn't felt ripped off.

Maybe I was wrong? I've rarely felt sorry for business owner but I do today, said the job will loose her money as she only get's a quarter of the value of the Living and Social voucher.

years ago the seam on my leather coat ripped and it cost €45 to repair, and all it was was fxing a seam no changes; at least 8 yrs ago. €75 for alteration actually seems about right tbh - altering a regular jacket with the alterations you describe sounds like about €35/45 (jackets are hard, you have to do every seam to do it properly not just take in the back seam, also need to alter sides) and I'd expect leather to be at least twice the price if not 3 times. actually depending on how much work, €75 might be cheap

Thanks,I should have asked for a price before I left it in,or possibly shopped around, both of which I often would do but not on this occasion. It wasn't that big and certainly not worth E75,I didn't realise that leather was so expensive though.

I really dont think you were ripped off, I think it was a fair price and if the store only got €55 or so they really did lose money on the job. Make sure your reccommend the shop to your friends.

Are you happy with the actual work? Does if drape and fit correctly?
