New car suggestions

I'm looking for a new car so any ideas are helpful, here are my criteria for people to give suggestions

    Budget - €6000 max

I'm 25, so the insurance is really the only issue

Fuel consumption - doesn't really matter, I walk to work so only want a car for going to the supermarket, football training, and the odd spin at the weekend. Will be doing some city driving, and the odd longer trip (maybe 4/5 hours on motorway). Car could easily go a week without driving over 10km

Looking for something nice that will be a bit fun, not a boring 4 door saloon really, I am sure I will have enough time for them in the future

Things I have considered so far:

Nissan 350z - can't believe how cheap I am seeing some of these for, but I am sure insurance would be prohibitive

Audi TT - looking like my preference at the moment, just wondering what they are like in terms of reliability if they are ~8 years old? Also, what are they like in terms of space, could you squash people in the back, and also what is the boot like?

Mazda RX8 - any suggestions on are welcome

Interested in any feedback, will be buying LHD as I don't live in Ireland, so don't need concrete examples of carzone ads etc

Any suggestions or prices won't really be relevant outside ireland. Different countries will favour different marques and have specific tax regimes.
    I'd suggest getting advice locally

    A 6 grand car here isn't a 6 grand car anywhere else

Agree with your point, but not every country in Europe has VRT, or even road tax, so it doesn't make too much difference

I have checked a few prices and they are pretty similar anyway tbh, so really just looking for suggestions on those cars, or something that would be in the same price range here

Live in Belgium, but they have no VRT, so I can buy in France, NL, Germany, Luxembourg

I think what Colm is trying to get at is that resale values of cars are different here than on the Continent meaning what you can get for €6k here doesn't mean you will buy it in France or Germany for similar money.

Simply put, because of our old motor tax system where the rate of tax is based on engine size, anything large has a very limited appeal here so it depreciates quickly. The same car might not depreciate as quickly on the Continent though because as you said not every country has VRT or motor tax so they are more appealing making it more valuable. Eg. you might buy a 04 BMW 740i for €6k here but might pay €8k for it in France or Germany. Resale values are termined by supply and demand in a particular market place.
