Larger Dish?

I currently have a 60cm dish which was installed for sky. Im currently in the process of ditching sky and going freesat/saorview route and with a ferguson combo currently picking up Astra and Eurobird.

If I want to pick up other satellites e.g. hotbird etc for use of a Tring sporsts card or something similar, do I simply need a bigger dish e.g. Triax 1.1m or do I need a separate dish or motor?

Sorry if that sounds simplistic but Im new to the satellite stuff.

Take a look here for an idea of what a multi-lnb setup involves, also this thread has plenty of photos.

Interesting post about the availability of English-language programming; http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=74427597&postcount=12

Thanks Peter, reading that I am reckoning that I would need to increase the size of the dish and install two LNB's?

Depends on what you're looking for (see the link added to my post above).

If you have nothing specific in mind & just want to have as many satellites as possible available, then a motorised dish might suit. In this case, you would have to keep the seperate dish for 28E to avoid disrupting others' viewing.

I would not recommend Tring sports on 16deg east at the moment. They have stopped showing 3pms on sat and 4pms on sunday. Looks like these matches will only be on their terrestial system from now on.

If you still want tring you will need at least 1.1cm triax with multibar holder and id recommend at least 4 lnbs. One for 13, 16, 19 and 28deg.

Personally i'd recommend triax 88cm with 4 lnbs for 9east, 13, 19, and 28. (13deg central focus). If you have room for 1.1cm even better. But still wouldnt bother with 16degs. Not worth hassle. Get a Cyfra+ card for HD football (polish audio)and HD movies (english audio) on 13deg east @ circa €11 per month.

Cheers..exactly what I needed to know. Final question (s)...

My current dish is lined up at 28 deg. Will it simply be a matter of whipping it off the bracket and installing the new dish and lnb's? Is it difficult to align the new Lnbs to the correct satellites or is this a job for a pro installer?

I did try to install a dish at a holiday home I have in Donegal once and gave up. The installer came out and said 1 inch off at ground level is the equivalent to 32 miles off the satellite so it sounds more precise than fitting a simple UHF aerial for Saorview!

An installation done using proper signal measuring equipment, by someone who knows how to use it, is always the best job but you could at least attempt it with something less e.g. the receiver's strength/quality display if you can get it in view of the dish.
