Wedding photography - DVD only?

I'm looking to book a wedding photographer soon and the one I love only does the images on a DVD, no album. In a way I'd like to pick my own album anyway, and the photos to go into it so it's not a major issue, but if we print the photos ourselves I'm worried they won't look as good? Has anyone went this route, and how has it worked out? Would we have to get them printed in a professional photo shop for them to look good?

I'm taking this route, and once they are high resolution and you have a good printer, why wouldn't they look as good, i cannot justify or afford paying the ridiculous prices that some photographers are looking for.

    Hi, thanks for that.

The photographer I'm getting professionally finishes 150 photos and that's what's on the DVD, plus you get 20 prints in 10 x 8 size.

Thanks very much for the link, I'll look into that when I'm going to get others printed.

I've looked at his work and I'm very happy with the photos he does. He's not particularly cheap either..I'm not going down the DVD only route for costs reasons. I'd actually get albums done for much less than he's charging, but I really like his photography style.

    Thanks :)

I made my own album on my mac laptop. You just upload it and they send it back printed. It cost about €120. Am very happy with how it turned out and really good fun making it myself.

I often use photobook websites such as:

    www.mixbook.com

    www.shutterfly.com

    www.blurb.com

Or just google photo books and you will see lots of options.

Best of luck with your wedding planning.

If you're getting DVD-only, make sure the photographer is including the right to print those photos in your package. Most reputable printers won't print them for you without that permission.

For the actual printing, a boards user stcstc who runs www.360-dpi.com is regularly recommended on the photography forum :)

    Have a look at http://www.shakespearephotobooks.com/

I met them at a trade show and the 12x12 photobook they do with a leather cover is superb, you can download software off their website for free to do the layout.
