You should be able to get the TV channels that Saorview offer (it has MPEG 4 tuner), not sure about the digital text.

My TV (a philips) didn't have any luck picking up the digital channels until I set the country as UK, then it had no problem, doubt this is the problem with your TV, but just a thought!

    EDIT:

Actually there was stuff on this telly on boards HERE if it helps?

According to Sonys specs it says its tuner is mpeg 2, so don't think it will, but cleverer people who list on here will probably confirm it.

    MPEG-2 only I'm afraid - http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/2894287121.pdf, MPEG-4 video decoding required for Saorview.

STB required with that TV to receive the Saorview channels.

According to the spec, as dooferoaks said above, it has an MPEG4-AVC [H.264] video decoder
    Integrated Tuners
    PAL -B/G/H, -I, -D/K: SECAM -B/G, -D/K, L/L'; DVB-T, DVB-T (MPEG4-AVC [H.264]), DVB-S/S2 (MPEG4-AVC [H.264])

This TV is designed to meet the standards (current as of August, 2009) of DVB-T/C/S/S2 (MPEG2 and MPEG4-AVC [H.264]) services.

    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/VIERA+Flat+Screen+TV/VIERA+Flat+Screen+TV+%28Ireland%29/TX-L42D25L/Specification/4723193/index.html;jsessionid=0a6d28e930d829ff04fc4d5546b68057cc0ca526a498.e38Pa3mLbx4Oci0Lch4QchaOa3z0n6jAmljGr5XDqQLvpAe?trackInfo=true

Based on the model no. and its spec it should receive the Saorview channels OK. Is there an option to do a digital scan?

There is a DVB-S option. But it doesn't pick up any channel.

DVB-S is satellite i.e. on board satellite tuner, dish required.

Saorview is DVB-T i.e. terrestrial via aerial connected to co-ax input (see page 10 of the manual).

    Do you have the manual?

Do a DVB-T scan for the Saorview channels.

DVB-S(atellite) is for satellite reception, it requires input from a satellite dish pointed at an appropriate orbit position to pick anything up.

That's what I was thinking. I have the manual, but I don't see an option to do the DVB-T scan.
When I click on tv, menu, there is no DVB-T listed?

Can you do factory reset with the TV and start from scratch (page 49 of the manual)?

That was it, I made a balls of it first time around, i wrongly selected the satelite option. Then the other option was gone so i needed to reset it.

Big thank you to everyone for helping.

On initial set up make sure you select HD support for DTT

The list on the Saorview site is not exhaustive, but its probably a list of ones they have tested and found to comply.

Of course there may be many unit out there like this one
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360436320849&clk_rvr_id=318331296393&item=360436320849&lgeo=1&vectorid=229508

that will work fully with Saorview but have yet to get the official nod.

(Assuming Argos ain't got it wrong of course).

Only those products that have been submitted to the Teracom testing facility and paid the testing fee and subsequently passes the Saorview compliance testing will be added to the approved list.

See this information I posted earlier - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=77228488&postcount=6

    Wrong.

If it's not on the Saorview list there is no proof that it's 100% compatible. Argos is the 2nd least reliable indication of compatibility. Most unreliable source is eBay sellers, many of whom are lying when they include the word Saorview.
