With the exception of the UK, I think you'll find that most jobs in customer service and the factory floor will require a good working knowledge of the local language. And given that most EU countries are experiencing high levels of unemployment right now the competition will be high for such jobs.

what qualifications do you have and languages do you speak? Here in Switzerland you can get by in the IT sector with only English, but outside that you normally need to speak one of the local languages unless you have some special skills that the company needs and are will to over look the language issue. Most Irish people I know working here speak either French or German and in may cases both.

Europeans are coming to Ireland for minimum wage jobs. Just heard on pat kenny 3000 Brazilians got Irish work permits this year for meat processing plants because no Irish people want to do that work.

Maybe try England? I'm flying over to Manchester in 2 weeks time to get a feel for the city and hopefully register with an employment agency. Ryanair flights cost around €52 return, dorm rooms £15 a night or private rooms from £20.

Have you experience behind a bar? It's great fun working in Irish bars abroad. No need for any local language, and you'll pick it up while you're there.

Good website for those thinking of teaching english abroad http://www.daveseslcafe.com/

There's excellent money to be made in South Korea, especially for people with a Masters who can get jobs in unis teaching english- top dollar for less than 15 hours per week, leaving you time to make more cash on the private market.

Site should also have details of EU positions too.
