I once bought some clip-fins from the Centre of Alternative Technology in Wales. They will never be as efficient as panels made with the modern coatings, but will work reasonably well. There are also possiblities to make a panel with old radiators, but to be honest, I think their thermal mass is far too high for them to be efficient in anything but the best of continuous sunlight.

Ideally a panel needs to be light to respond quicly to bursts of light.

Thanks quentin for the reply I'm not sure what a 'clip fin' is to be honest.
I found a supplier in Ireland but you have to be a registered solar installer in order to buy stuff from them, I can order what I need to be shipped to me from the UK etc. but was hoping there was somewhere in Ireland I could just go and pick up what I need maybe have a look around.

There are loads of suppliers of solar panels who will supply you with panels, cylinder, pump stations etc.

I thought you wanted to make your own panel from timber, glass, aluminium & copper etc. I did find one supplier of the parts, but the panel ended up costing me more than a professionally manufactured on would. I think that line of supply has given up because such panels were not eligible for the grants.
