24 hours of running covering 246.4080 km – just over 153 miles.

WALES hosted a record-breaker yesterday, who had run the jaw-dropping distance of more than 153 miles in just 24 hours.

By the end they were calling Lizzy Hawker “Superwoman” as she kicked off the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championship in Llandudno with a world record.

The crowds watched in amazement as the diminutive English athlete, who lives in Switzerland, smashed the 18-year-old world record by a full three kilometres as she ended 24 hours of pain and glory on Gloddaith Avenue by covering 246.4080km – just over 153 miles.

Not only that, she was making her debut in the endurance event and came home ahead of all the men.

Superwoman indeed, astonishing. Imagine the frame of mind you need to be in to make such an attempt, it's beyond me how it could be done.

She beat the men and the men's field can't have been half bad at that race. Impressive running.

I have spoken about this before. She beat the men? So, what standard were these men I wonder?

Is this record the farthest ANY human has run in a 24 hr period? Or the farthest any female has run?

Edit: "smashed the world best 24 hour performance by a woman on the road by 3.423 km."

Mens 24 record is held by Yiannis Kouros (both Track 303.506 km, and Road 290.221 km). Pretty amazing, read about him here http://www.yianniskouros.com/
