I was wondering what people do when running, I usually listen to podcasts when I am training. The ones I listen to are usually about 1 and a half hours long so good for a good session.

What do people listen to or do while training\running

Audio books! Working my way through Game of Thrones on my runs at the moment.

Marathon Talk, Football Weekly, This American Life.
Worked my way through a lecture series on the American Civil War from iTunes U on my long runs last year, and I fill the gaps this year with the Mark Kermode film podcast.

Usually Marathon Talk or live albums for longer runs (not too many of them lately though :( ), then for shorter ones I tend to just throw my iPod onto shuffle.

Marathon talk, off the ball. I tried learning french before with Michel Thomas but gave up, might try again.

Big fan of audio books if I'm running easy on my own.

Nothing really, well the voices inside my head sometimes. I don't really like to listen to a whole lot.

for shorter fast runs, I listen to some of the podrunner 180 bpm mixes.

If I need to concentrate on my form, I listen to a metronome (amazing how quickly you can get used to it and it guides your cadence without you even knowing it)

Long runs, it's just shuffle on a carefully selected playlist, mostly fast tempo, upbeat, songs to keep the motivation up.

It does make me laugh everytime Ebeneezer Goode comes up in the mix, considering...

Yep, aside from traffic it's just quiet time for my head and just let whatever thoughts happen as they wish.

Don't know how people listen to marathon talk while they're running, that would drive me insane.

When I'm running is usually the only chance I really get to listen to music so I usually just stick on something I haven't listened to in ages or one of my numerous 'running playlists' that are usually made up of songs with motivational themes! :pac:

It's hard to keep on top of 8000 or so songs, need to listen to them sometime. :)

Beat fm on early morning runs because its great craic. Otherwise I shuffle my songs so anything can come up. I get irritated with set playlists. I have also been known to phone someone to chat on lsrs, which means I look like I'm talking to myself.

If I listened to music I'd probably start speeding up and slowing down with different songs, or be tempted to mess about with skipping songs. Listening to people talking doesn't have that effect, and I can tune them in or out.

If I'm going road running, I'll always have a couple of playlists set to shuffle, more for distraction than anything else.
Running in the mountains, I usually don't bother bringing music, prefer taking in the surroundings

For slow runs, I listen to podcasts, usually This Week in Tech or something geeky like that.

For faster runs usually some up tempo music, at the moment it's a lot of naff dance/pop like Scooter and Mark McCabe.

I listen to the dog panting- he sounds like he's about to keel over from the moment we start running but could probably still do another few miles when we finish,
