I was wondering what the story with Kurt Angle's health is now at the moment. I was watching Impact over the weekend - i know, i know......and his body frame has got a lot slimmer and face also looks really thin almost unhealthy looking

    Just wondering

He is training for the Olympics.

But underlying all that nonsense his arms atrophied due to his neck problems. Also he has been caught drug driving a few times recently.

I think it was drink driving, not drug driving

There is always pills around when Kurt gets in trouble either in his car or his mouth.

No, nor will he, it's another shameless publicity stunt from Kurt, up there with I was offered a contract with UFC, despite Dana White saying he wasn't.

I hope his Olympic bid is a publicity stunt. It would be a shame if he tainted his 1996 win by embarrassing himself at the trials or the actual games in London.

His 1996 win is already tainted in eyes of those who saw the Olympic final :P

Is there footage of that available to view on-line? I'd love to see it, just to sate my curiosity. :)

Kurt Angle... he's a bit mental, yes?

Amateur wrestling is a cure for insomnia:

Most pundits though Jadidi schooled Angle and was robbed of a gold medal.

No Angle slams or anglelocks here.

was this for his role as a MMA fighter of a certain weight level? or is he still looking really thin now well after filming?

Thought he had to drop weight to play his part as Koba in Warrior?

He's not looking the best at all of late,he should try to take a year or so off from wrestling and let his body have a break from the abuse he puts it through,he won't though.

He's been having consistantly good matches this year imo but I do worry about him more than most. I remember meeting him in England(he was sound by the way) it wasn't long after the full on cage match with Joe at Lockdown & saying to him to take it easy more or less he seemed to brush off what I was saying even though he missed the entire tour I went to. I wouldn't compare Kurt Angle now to the Kurt Angle that was juiced up after the turn of the Century in wwe.

I met him at a signing in Dublin years ago with Trish Stratus and he looked almost as big as Cena did when I met him,it's hard to believe it's the same guy when I see him on TNA on TV now.

In a way he should healtier now not wrestling full time & not being on the juice but he doesn't give himself time to recover from injuries & his neck must be still giving him trouble constantly.
P.S. Nice one meeting Trish she must fair savage to see in person.

I saw some of TNA for the first time in a LONG time this week and noticed that about Kurt. He looked so much smaller. I didn't think he looked bad just tiny compared to how he used to look. They billed him at over 220 lbs, what would his real wight be now? More like 180 maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,116 ✭✭✭starviewadams

I'd say he's 180 at the very most.

Trish looked hot obviously, but refused to pose for photographs, not sure if that was because she was a heel at the time or just that she's a bitch in general!

Yeah Angle is easily below 200lb now. Tna will continue to bill him as 230lb or something ridiculous. Can't wait for his match with Roode.
Trish was pretty good as a heel with Christian a few years back(was it 7 years ago,how time flies), hope she isn't a bitch nothing as bad as meeting someone thats on tv thats a asshole doubt she'd appreciate the poses i'd ask her to do.

"Schooled" might be going a bit far, but it was definitely an even match. I've no idea how the judges were able to call it in Angle's favour. He seemed noticeably fitter than Jadidi, but there was nothing between them in technique if that video is anything to go by.

Just watching Impact now, Angle looks sick. From 200px-Kurt_Angle_2005-08-21.jpg to the way he is now is just scary. His arms, neck and shoulders are half the size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Angle doesn't care about his health, he'll keep pushing himself too hard until he ends up like Dynamite Kid or worse.

But in general I doubt his painkiller addiction and crippling pain have gotten much better in TNA. I can't enjoy his matches whenever he does his big crash-and-burn spots.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,469 ✭✭✭✭GTR63

I still enjoy his matches cause he's consistantly great but as I said to the man himself I wished he took it easy at times. What weight class is he meant to be going for in the olympic qualifiers I imagine thats why he's slimming down.

The reason many older amateur wrestlers are coming back to compete in the Olympics is due to equality laws legislating that there must be an equal amount of sports offered to both genders so educational institutions are dropping wrestling for soccer, golf etc. Wrestling loses out to Football & Basketball as it doesnt generate revenue for educational institutions so Wrestling is being dropped from the curriculum. So the USA isnt producing the number of wrestlers it once did.

I reckon Kurt would be in better shape today than ten years ago.... if he would take a break every now and then, and I dont mean his three or four week break that comes along every so often. This time ten years ago he was huge and didnt look all that good imo. He slimmer now and actually looks like he's in good shape instead of just being roided up so that he didnt look too small for the WWE main event scene.

If he is actually going for the Olympics team then he'll have to be dropping the title (to Bobby Roode please :)) and dissapearing off TV fairly soon. If he makes the team or not (Personally, I think he'll claim an "injury" and pull out once he has a few practice rounds with the other guys trying out), he should still take a few months to just sit back and relax. Bar any time he was injured, I dont think he has taken any meaningful time off since he started in 1998.

As great as he is, I'd much rather he went missing for a few months instead of continuing his 100mph wrestling style and risk a career ending injury because he wouldnt ease up for a bit.

Apparently this guy hobbles around backstage, and needs the adrenaline rush to get him through TV, turns into a different guy.

This guy can barely win against a flight of stairs, there's no way he can actually compete in the Olympics or the UFC. :( If he does I'll turn in my mod badge.

(Kurt's my favourite wrestler of all time, it makes me sad hearing about how wreckless he is about his health)

He's be dead by now if he was still in the WWE, they should've clamped down on his recklessness towards himself at WM19.
Arguably, someone should've clamped down on it when he went to the Olympics after breaking his neck.

Can't see it ending positively, anyways. :(

Not trying to stir ****, but Kurt had a painkiller problem and that's one of the reasons why he left WWE, coupled with the schedule. I'm sure he could have worked out a deal with Vince. In fact, I'm sure that could have been in the case of lots of things, but that's not the point.

I would love for Kurt to become a trainer or something to let him slow down.

Also, olympics?? Pffffft. No chance in hell. Sad really... I like him! Great wrestling style but... Ah, such is life.

I get the impression WWE fired Kurt because he wouldn't/couldn't sort out his addiction/health problems and WWE were terrified he'd die on their watch. tbh I can't imagine WWE turning down Angle if he needed help.

That said, it was "pre-Benoit" and WWE were hurting for stars in 2006 so maybe they needed him too much and pursuaded him staying on the road.

The story I always heard was he and Vince agreed to terminate his contract so he could stay at home without having to worry about rushing back (Like he would do if he were under contract). The whole idea was to give him a few months rest before an eventual return. He took two weeks off and then signed with TNA instead.

If thats accurate, I cant imagine Vince wanting anything to do with him in the near future. Look how long he's held grudges in the past.

On the subject of Kurt...word going round is he was supposed to be on the Ultimate Fighter heavyweights season with Rashad and Rampage, but he failed the medical exam.
Ariel tweeted that Kurt Angle tried to get on "The Ultimate Fighter" but failed the physical. Interview with Dana White to be posted soon.

From Ariel's twitter @arielhelwani: Other big news out of the post-fight presser Dana scrum, was Dana saying Kurt Angle didn't make it on TUF because he failed his physical

The common comment at the time was that Kurt was in a worse condition than Brian Pillman (who died on the roster) was at is worst. To a large degree he was his own worst enemy using horse steroids, getting pills off a bunch of dodgy doctors, as a member of the ECW brand he was given a new low impact MMA/mat based character but Kurt being Kurt he marked out wrestling in front of fans at the ECW arena & did a ****+ with RVD pulling his groin & his ab muscle very badly and an under reported detail is that Karen Angle was known to ring him every couple of minutes as she was paranoid he was cheating (he was) which only increased his anxiety.

But WWE did run Kurt hard for example whenever a main eventer got injured they drafted Kurt to fill in and the like.

TBH Kurt looks perfectly healthy to me, if he was a normal bloke on the street you wouldn't bat an eyelid. His voice is not how I remember it, but other than that he's done a fantastic job in losing the cartoonish wrestling physique.

Don't disagree with any of that, but that was 2006, it's not like there were no hints that he was a major risk to himself well before that. Workaholic.

Kurt getting into training would be great for him, he might yet do that, hopefully anyways.

Probably the best place for this news. Dana keeps it intentionally vague that Kurt 'failed the medical' to get onto the Ultimate Fighter.

UFC president Dana White was asked about TNA star Kurt Angle's recent claims that he was offered a chance to fight Kimbo Slice. White stated at the press conference following Saturday's UFC on Versus show that Angle wanted in the company, especially after Brock Lesnar was signed.

White stated that he told Angle he would put him on The Ultimate Fighter. "He didn't pass the medical," White said. He stressed that he never told Angle he would have a pay-per-view fight with Slice. To view the video, visit Youtube.com/user/MMAWeeklyVideos.

Powell's POV: I can't believe Kurt Angle would embellish a story. Wait, yes I can. White went out of his way to stress that he likes Angle, and declined to say more when he was asked about Angle failing the medical testing.
