GBB pistol feed problem USP Compact

    Hi Guys,

I have just received an UMAREX USP compact from RedWolf in Hong Kong - its a lovely little pistol with very crisp blowback and initially I was delighted with it.

I took it out to VACANT on Sunday and then the problems started - the gun will cycle ok but does not fire - if the trigger is pulled four or five times it will dry fire and then on the next pull will spew out the five or six BBs it should have cycled individually....like a mini shotgun!

I tried different weight BBs (.23, .25, .20) to no different effect - I tried half loading the mag to no effect, I cleaned the mag with a little silicone oil again with no effect....If I can avoid mailing the damned thing all the way back to Hong Kong I will.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Tom.

Try it in better, more controlled surroundings. Indoor sites can be mighty cold, and cause pistols to perform extremely sub-par.

In your house, fill the mag full of gas (no BB's yet), and warm it to room temperature. Test fire the gun - will it dry fire? If so, take note of the number of shots per one fill of gas. If not, and it takes multiple trigger pulls to release the hammer, then there's either A) Broken part B) Misaligned spring, and if you open it, you risk voiding warranty - best to make contact with Redwolf, and go from there.

Now if it did cycle fine without BB's, fill the mag again, this time with good quality BBs (Excels, King Arms, Madbull Premium etc). Once more, allow the mag to come to room temperature. Test fire again - does it fire? If not, but the hammer is released, try loading individual BB's into the hop chamber, and pull the trigger. If this works, inspect the loading nozzle and BBU for damage.

Personally I'd make contact with Redwolf, and ask them what they can do, and what you can do, that you don't want to invalidate your warranty, but would like to avoid postal charges where possible. I've always found Redwolf are pretty easy to deal with, so I'd definitely try that first

    PS: Fan of Aliens?

Thanks a million for the detailed reply Inari....I thought maybe it was a problem with cold alright so will give your suggestions a go tonight....good advice man.

Am loathed to send it back if I can possibly avoid it as it sat with customs for almost two weeks on entry to the country....grrr!

Well spotted dude - i didn't think anyone but me paid that much attention to little things like the names of spaceships and Nostromo is such a mouthful!

Had this problem with mine for a while where it wouldn't fire 2 or 3 shots and would shoot them all out at once after that.
I had my hop up set fairly high as I had lost my hop up key and when I set the hop up lower there was no problems. Maybe try turning the hop all the way off? I don't know if you'd notice the bb's much indoors.

Thanks Richie - more good advice....TBH the range on this thing (when it does fire...) is AWESOME - almost AEG range which is mad for a pistol....and i do have the hop up on by about mid way - i'll turn it fully off and see if that improves things - thanks for the advice.

Just an update on this one guys - so Redwolf got back to me and made some fairly obvious but in the end useless suggestions...!

Looks like it was the Hop Up alright - set it down to zero and so far so bloody excellent! The gun is shooting straight as a die and ultra reliable - have fired off 100+ shots with none of the feed issues so thanks to one and all for your advice!

Glad to hear it, the range on these is amazing, getting better than one of my AEGs since I set it.

Just a note, the KSC USPs hate silicon oil on the hop-up unit. Even if you have silicon on your fingers when loading BBs into the magazine, the pistol will spit them out all over the place. Keep the rubber dry and if possible use a green gas with little silicon in it.
