Read in todays edition of the Donegal News that there is a couple in Letterkenny with 4 children and in total each week they claim...wait for it, wait for it......€1,763, not monthly, WEEKLY!!!!!

He gets €322 as hes on disability (probably too fat to work) She's his carer and so gets €380 a week, they get a Guardians pension for a child taken in of €286, Rent Supplement of €276, Child benefit €288, Special needs benefit for one of their daughters, €211 so a total of €1763 a week!!!!!!!!

Myself and my wiofe work, pay a mortgage, bills, child care etc etc and were taking slightly more than half that home....

No wonder the country is f**ked!!!!!

Much as I don't agree with most of, they do have special needs child. You don't know how much care is needed for them.

Also, child benefit is a monthly payment, not weekly

Peaople jealously posting malicious gossip and assuming that there's a scam with absolutely no eveidence or backup whatsoever and trying to whip up a needless frenzy.

And what? Sounds like a valid excuse to me. They are not in a position to work so she is saving the state money by looking after him.

I can think of far worse wastes of money going on in this country.

A man who is disabled and thus can't work, with a wife who's his carer and thus can't work, with a special needs child bringing home E1000 a week.

Yeah, once you remove the whole disability, special needs, and requirement for a full time carer bits it looks like they got it good.

    Lucky bastards.

OP those figures are totally inaccurate. I'm not 100% sure what disability allowance is but I think its around €188.

As for Carers Allowance, its €204 per week. I know this because I'm a full time carer to my disabled father. I'm 28 and had to leave my job (good job at that) to care for my Dad after he became completely disabled after a brain aneurysm and several strokes which occurred because of said brain aneurysm.

That family may well be on all of the above payments but I just wanted to point out that those figures provided are totally wrong and I'm sure they are not receiving anywhere as much as what you are saying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,671 ✭✭✭dav3

Come on OP, at least come back and provide a few links to back up your s**** post. Something that we can at least check the figures against?

But he is dead right about the obscene levels of handouts in this country.

I was simply posting on what was printed in a local newspaper...i didnt realise that there are a lot of overly sensitive people frequenting this section and probably claiming insane amounts too and so have got all defensive over it.

I never said they werent entitled to any of it, but €1763 a week is way over the top.

And lastly sorry to all those who are offended/bothered by exclaimation marks, i didnt realise that it would effect so many people!!!!!!!

It's not the levels of handout, it's who gets them. I don't care in the slightest how much someone gets as long as they genuinely do need it and specialist care is not going to be cheap.

If the figures are true I don't see why everyone is justifying it.
I would like to know the ages of the kids and other circumstances before saying it is justified or not.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭bbam

In reality we're getting a good deal from that family...

2 Family members need full time care which is provided within the family.. they still have the time and generosity to take in another child who is less fortunite than most of our children and they provide it with a family environment to live in...

If all three of these individuals were taken in by the state and 24hour care provided, the weekly bill would be a few multiples of the sum they receive..

Providing everything is above board we should be tipping our hats to them.. not ridiculing them for doing their best with the hand that life has dealt them.

Ok i admit my title leaves me wide open to criticism and i know i should be a little more tolerant of those less well off (however in this case they are certainly not less well off) However to be in receipt of €90,000 net a year in state benefit which is the equivalent of earning approx €180,000 a year is obscene in my opinion.

And just to piss off all the rest of you...!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't get too worked up over the replies to your post OP. I'd say you have it spot on -
i didnt realise that there are a lot of overly sensitive people frequenting this section and probably claiming insane amounts too and so have got all defensive over it.
Some people have a lot o time on their hands. I'm referring to the times of peoples posts. Most likely they are all on the dole and getting payed to sit around and browse the net- Not all their fault I know, but as you can see, any attack on government payouts gets their backs up !
But seriously, I think we all know that the weekly amount handed out to this family, if correct, is obscene and makes any paye worker think of just dropping onto social welfare, IMHO.
(BTW - I'm on my lunch break)
