Let's try this again and be nicer...

So, what do you want to see, what do you expect to see and what would you love to see but doubt will happen?

My absolute ideal horror film to see on the big screen would be House (Hausu).

    Psychedelic brilliance.

Wow. Insane. Never heard of it.

I've no real expectations, though I hope Ti West's The Innkeepers gets a screening.

Hausu is one of the most underrated films of all time. It's like Evil Dead II with the insanity dialed up even higher, and the opening twenty minutes are the best subversion of traditional horror plot development I've seen. Bucket dances!

No preferences one way or the other this year. Some Argento would be nice, been meaning to get more into his stuff recently.

Would love to see this, it it's out in time for it...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKvG9wjx8Dc

Don't know how to embed, but its Andreas Marschall's (Tears of Kali) new film called Masks, it looks to be an homage of sorts to classic Giallo. Music is from an old slasher called 'Watch Me When I Kill'.

Halloween II (1981) The 30th Anniversary. Written by John Carpenter but he didn't direct it. A decent sequel, in which we learn the real reason why Michael Myers is pursuing Laurie Strode. Donald Pleasence is magnificent in it. "I shot him six times... I shot him six times!"

Halloween 3 - was good too. Had an Irish theme.

Apparently, from the "classics" vault The Exterminator and Savage Streets will be screened. I've never seen either.

The Exterminator is a classic piece of grotty, low budget trash. There's a Blu-Ray out at the end of the month and I for one cannot wait.

I'm hoping for The Innkeepers, The Thing 2011 and You're Next. I expect to see Paranormal Activity 3 and The Human Centipede 2. Not that I want to see either.

I'd be hoping that The Thing (2011) and PA3 to make an appearance; two films I'd definitely like to catch.

I didn't get to go to The Tingler show, I'd love to see/experience that! Maybe the spanish version of Dracula (with subs, lol); that'd be pretty cool. I dunno if anyone'd be into that, though. The Giant Claw would be pretty cool though. I'm just spitballin' here :)

I will be rather pissed off if The Thing 2011 and PA3 get screened because

a)They will likely be used as "marquee" attractions if they do which they bloody well arent

b)They are going to get a massive release anyway

The Horrorthon should be used to showcase horror that people other wise may not get an opportunity to see on the big screen, not to pander to the masses.

Paranormal Activity 3 is out a week before the festival so I doubt it will be screened.

Ah ok. Was just thinking more people would check out Horrorthon if some marquee film was shown first at it.

I'd like to see Hellraiser 4: Hellraiser in Space

Doesn't the lead actor from that movie live/teach in Dublin?

Before his death he regularly lectured in Trinity and was in fact one of the driving forces behind the establishment of the directors guild of Ireland

I'd like to see Hellraiser 4: Hellraiser in Space

cant remember anything about it but im pretty sure it was worse than hellraiser three which itself was worse than the second one , 1st one is a classic though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

Hellraiser 4 is gack.Hellraiser 5 however is actually very enjoyable.

Anyway,I dont want to see crappy sequels screend.IIRC they showed Halloween 4 or 5 a few years ago.
    :/

I guess though for classics like Hellraiser,Halloween, etc that there is prolly issues with screening rights and what not.

    Sigh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,182 ✭✭✭nyarlothothep

They showed Lost Boys and the Fog in 2002, Hellraiser 8 is meant to be the sh1ttest, its essentially Hellraiser in a videogame except he comes alive.

    IFI booklet also has:

    Blow Out
Chillerama (because it wouldn't be Horrorthon if Tim Sullivan wasn't there for some reason)
    Saint (zombie Santa!)
    Kidnapped
    Play Misty for Me
    Rabies
    The Exterminator / Savage Street
    Surprise Surprise!
    The Divide

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭Sasquatch76

I still haven't gotten over See No Evil as the surprise movie a couple of years back... Man that was rank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭Catcher7791

The IFI's October programme also lists The Theatre Bizarre, The Wicker Tree and Urban Explorer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

Of the announced movies so far,Im not brimming with confidence.I was going to treat myself to a weekend pass but of those we know about there are about 2 Id be interested in seeing on the big screen but even them I could take or leave.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 865 ✭✭✭FlashD

    Sorry .....what? .....Paranormal Activity 3

Wow! That was seriously quick, didn't even know they were making a third, talk about churning them out..... I didn't even see the second one yet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭westies4ever

would like to see this - looks creepy!

    Play Misty for Me.

Anyone else think this is an odd choice?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

Yep.Its a decent movie and all but if they are going for a 70s flick why not show something like say Black Christmas.

PMFM isnt a horror movie, not even slightly.Saying it is is like saying something like Fatal Attraction is a horror movie.

Every year I plan to go but each time the line up leaves a lot to desire and the inclusion of nonhorror films just annoys me. It's a festival which supposedly celebrates the genre yet seems resistant to showcasing classics in favour of either critically acclaimed non genre films or dreadful, boring camp films which are neither funny nor entertaining.

Anyone around Dublin tonight looking for a real genre film should check out The Woman playing at Filmbase

ok its 3 in the morning, i'm a little frustrated and feel a bit stupid at this stage, i need help please. i want to go to the horrorthon (it will be my first time) and i don't know where to get tickets for it? i tried the homepages http://www.irishfilm.ie/ and http://horrorthon.com/ for info and can't find a thing? a link from some one would be much appreciated and also i'm a little confused as to what does be shown at it? i thought it was pure past/present horror movies for the few days its on but reading your posts it suggests that its not? any help is appreciated, thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

    2 more stupid questions:
    1) who sells the tickets? e.g through their own website or like ticketmaster or something?
    2) are tickets sold out easily, like will this require me to queue up at all hours in the morning to get my hands on some tickets?
    thanks again

Troll 2. It's actually top quality.

Found out today a short I worked on will be shown at the Horrorthon. Not sure in what capacity yet. It could be a 'B movie' attached to something else or part of a horror shorts programme.

Tickets are sold through the IFI site - www.ifi.ie

Generally doesnt sell out but one of the nights they screen a surprise film that usually gets a good crowd/sold out.

    thank you very much.
just give a shout on here if you get the date the tickets go on sale, thanks again

I don't think they normally do advertise it that extensively. If you like them on FB or follow them on Twitter that should keep you in the loop (assuming you've an account with either).

Of course, you could just check the website intermittently.

following them on facebook - no info
checking their website for the past while - no info
checking the ifi website - no info
i dont use twitter but its really only useful for announcements, the full info should be available at one of the other sources above.

there are listings on IFI for the halloween weekend and a few other festivals/special events have listings too so i just find it a bit odd is all.

    Not yet, no.
Be patient, this is the IFI; they're not unfamiliar with halfassery.

Check again over the next week or so.

I'm very surprised and pleased to see Akira there. So I know I'll be going to that, Aliens (70MM!) and the surprise film.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭Sasquatch76

Would be nice if Biehn stuck around for the Aliens screening :D

    Overall though, I am disappoint.

I'd definitely consider Akira, although depends on what format they're showing it on. Blu-Ray I'm guessing...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

wasnt Aliens shot on 35mm? hows it being shown on 70mm?

never mind, imdb to the rescue, there was a 70mm blown up print, cool, would love to see that.

wheres this actually on anyway? the IFI?

    Pretty disappointing again.

Very disappointed that Ti West's "The Innkeepers" doesn't feature. Unless it's the surprise movie, that is.

There's still a few I might see though, to be fair.
