When a car is insured by a garage or a trade insurance does it have to

    1 Display insurance

    2 Display tax

Yes to both. However, in lieu of tax, a garage can display a trade plate - only if the car is being used for business purposes.

thanks but the trade plate must be displayed? And what does garage insurance disk look like? Is it like usual disk but with garage details?
What do trade plates look like? Are they on the outside or the inside?

Strange questions to ask - the trade plate has to be displayed. I'm not so sure I feel comfortable answering the other two - if you were in the trade, you would be familiar with them, or if you were a Police officer you'd know what they look like, anyone wanting to know what they look like reeks of fraud - not that I'm accusing you of that, it's just strange to get asked all about it.

Could you clarify why you want to know?

now that is a bit strong. My question, not that I have to explain to you, is because a car is being driven around here with no insurance/tax/nct and police told me it was under garage insurance .It does not have any plates except ordinary year/county/1234
anyway i now know, thanks to google what they look like and that the car does not have them

PS if i wanted to commit fraud i would not ask my question on a public forum

I don't think there is a specific insurance disc for trade insurance. Cars displaying a trade licence are exempt from the insurance disc regulations SI 355/1984. Trade plates are green and usually displayed propped up against the inside of the windscreen. They're very distinctive and only to be displayed when the car is used for purposes connected to the trade.

so a car covered by garage insurance does not have to have it displayed?

Generally cars aren't covered by garage insurance the person is. They drive so many vehicles they can't insure every car. They should be carrying the policy in case they are stopped.

Trade plates are green and are the opposite way from a normal reg xxxx D yy

The thing with trade plates is that they are only supposed to be used for work. So someone shouldn't really be driving on trades after hours and I know of several people who've had cars lifted when driving on trades.
