Have an aeriel and will be moving to Saorview /Freeview. Also have 3 televisions in the house.

Can I get a system that gives me multiroom with just one saorview / Freeview box.

    Thanks

STB required at each TV if the TVs aren't already compatible with Saorview.

When you refer to Freeview is it via a satellite dish or aerial from a transmitter in NI. Some posters confuse Freeview (UK terrestrial via aerial) and Freesat (UK channels via satellite dish).

Do you currently receive the 4 UK analogue channels via aerial?

    Thanks for replying:
    • What is a STB - complete novice at this so excuse the ignorance
    • It is Freesat that I want - thanks for clarifying
    • I currently receive the 4 UK analogue channels via aerial
Thanks if you can help. Prefer to have some bit of info before I go out to have it done.

STB = Set-Top-Box e.g. Saorview approved Bush from Argos

Are your current TVs compatible with the Saorview channels, have you tried a digital scan (if available)? Some older TVs may have an onboard digital tuner that can receiver the digital channels from Saorview/Freeview otherwise a STB or new digital TV (iDTV) will be required.

Have you tried a scan for the UK freeview channels with your existing aerial?

Would not think that would work as all the telly's are more than 7 years old and have no plans to replace them until they breakdown. I have checked them and there is no digital facility there.

The analogue signal both north and south will be switched off in about 12 months. At that time a STB will be required at each TV.

The combi box discussed in this thread will give you both the terrestrial and satellite channels. Requires aerial and satellite feed to each box at each tv.

Thanks for that, looks like it be just a Saorview box for two rooms and Saorview+Freesat for the main one. :(

If you can't currently receive Freeview, the post-switchover signal may be good enough for reliable reception in your area (Mullingar?), at least for the public service channels. Saorview boxes will display the standard definition Freeview channels.

Any 'multiroom' system based on centralised distribution of FTA signals from 1 or 2 receivers would only make any kind of sense if you had a house full of very old tvs & you were happy to accept that the choice of channels is limited by the number of receivers.

Here just to clarify, a simple yes or no answer is needed: I have 2 non saorview compatible tvs, do I have to buy a set top box for each?

    Yes.

Some older non-Saorview approved TVs may be able to receive the Saorview channels but if your TVs doesn't fall into category a STB is required for each.
