Evening entertainment for small venue

    Hi all,

We are getting married next June in Cork and will have about 100 people at the evening. The function room of our venue is quite small and I think a band would take up too much room and be too loud. We were thinking that just a DJ would do but then people might not dance like they would if they had a band encouraging them. Does anyone have any advice/suggestions/experiences that might work for us? Thanks!

Just have the DJ but get the DJ to play music to suit all music taste. Problem sorted.

Yeah I'd agree with that. We just had a dj for about the same number of people and it was fab. He was the type to get people on the floor. Once you get a dj who won't be silent and who'll play a decent mix of 60's through to modern music it should be fine.

as above, if you get a vocal DJ who knows his business, he will get the crowd up.

Some people may find an all night DJ monotonous but thats a judgement call for yourselves, for a small wedding you could get a 2-3 piece band to do a 2 hour set. Try any of the pubs in town on a weekend and you should get someone.

looks like we'll be having similiar numbers. I also think our reception room would be overcrowed by a band so we've decided to just get a DJ and forget about a band. I dont remember any specific details about any wedding band i've ever seen at a wedding. To be honest i remember good DJ's more. A DJ has never ruined a song i love by singing it badly! means we can pick really funky first dance song if we want cos no one has to learn to sing it, DJ can just play the original. Says money too..

Thanks for the replies! I think the DJ is a good idea but I was worried that no one would get up and dance if there was no band. But you're right, if the DJ has a bit of personality then he or she should be able to get people going. Now the next thing is to find such a DJ in Cork...
