Marathon Bucket List

I was just looking through a list of marathons from across the Globe, taking note of which ones I would like to do if I had the opportunity. Before I knew it, I had selected 40 of them !!

Now, I'm soon to be 39 years of age, and I am still a virgin when it comes to marathon running, so trying to work my way through my list would probably take me well into my 50's and probably into my 60's :o

So I need to narrow it down a bit, and I have listed my top 10 "want to do" marathons.

    In no particular order :-

    Los Angeles
    Paris
    London
    San Francisco
    Berlin
    Istanbul
    Chicago
    Athens
    New York
    Las Vegas

(I'd love to run Boston also, but I will never qualify :( )

And with that list in mind, I am going to attempt the Connemara and Dublin Marathons next year

So, can you pick 10 marathons or less that you definitely want to run ?

Damn, opened this thread thinking it was a new way to carry drinks and gels........ em, the "The Marathon Bucket" (patent pending)

goes off to google Dragon's Den application.....

I do like the idea though OP, but I'm not sure about Vegas for running a marathon. I'd add Sydney and the Great Ocean Road in Australia to that list, I also hear the Faroe Islands are lovely this time of year, and you never know you might just win;)

I've had one of these for a few years.

    London
    Edinburgh (one day  )
New York (have had an entry but couldn't go)
    London
    Las Vegas
    Connemara
    Chicago
    Boston
    Berlin
    Honolulu
    Midnight Sun
    Polar Circle

I'd really like to run Antwerp as well since I was all set to run it this year.

Chicago and Boston (registered for both), then:
    London
    Comrades
    San Francisco
    Venice
    Rotterdam
    Sydney

I would also buy one of Sideswipe's marathon buckets.

Forget Paris, it sucks ass imo.

    Berlin (done)
    London
    Rotterdam
    Stockholm
    Memphis
    Auckland

Mainly cause I like the place or would like to go so why not do a marathon.

The 5 majors (will need to get old to qualify for Boston though), Connemara (was supposed to do it this year but got injured 5 weeks before it), Comrades, Big Sur, Medoc, Tokyo.

Yeah, I've read mixed reviews on the Paris marathon alright.

I personally love Paris though, one of my favourite cities, and that's why it makes it in there.

Dublin  [doing in 5 weeks!]

Paris - [Entered for next April, love the city and the people I know who have actually done it have nothing but good things to say about it]
Berlin - [Intend to do it this time next year]
    New York
    Comrades
San Francisco - Several family members married and living there
    Chicago
London - Lived there myself for 5 years
    Boston
Tokyo [almost as hard to get into as Boston, London or NY!!]
Disney [Florida] - Would love to do it with family members who live in San Fran, and have gotten into running!

I have actually done it and it does suck ass :D too many bottle necks and after 8km at a water station evryone had to come to a full stop, crazy. Reviews of this year do seem a little better although still very mixed.

Although the marathon was crap it was one of the best family holidays I've had. A weekend checking out Paris city and then heading down to Euro disney for 5 days made it all worth it.

I'll be joining you for that, done it twice already and love the city and everything about the race.

I have two lists the first being while I am still aiming for times and being competitive:

    Berlin
    Paris
    Rotterdam
    Chicago
    Boston
    Fukuoka
    London
    Houston
    Dubai

Once i start to slip in performances and will start to doing races for the pure enjoyment of participating this will be the list:

    Comrades
Great Wall Marathon (yes running on great wall of china)
Niagra falls Marathon (As far as i know only one that start and finish in different countries)

Marathon Du Medoc I have dedicated years of quality training towards this one, but always seem to miss it. Maybe next year...

I must be the only one who has absolutely no intentions of running that race event, ever. I really do not see the appeal. I keep my running and drinking strictly separate.

I actually have an Excel file with my wish list and an approximate timetable!! How sad is that?!

    London (next year)
Chicago (hopefully next year, it'll be the last of the 5 majors for me)
    Rotterdam
    Barcelona
    Connemara Ultra
    Athens Classic marathon
    Milan
    Venice
Dingle Ultra (if it happens again)
    Comrades
